I "THINK" I've narrowed it down to 2 50" plasmas. I am looking at the pioneer kuro KRP500M ~2000 and the Panasonic TC-P50G10 ~1700. The kuro doesnt have a tuner or speakers(its okay I have dish and a 5.1 system) but when it comes down to picture quality, lifespan, and overall quality..what do you guys prefer? thanks!
I don't have an opinion between those (except that I'd go with the Panny, but only because of familiarity), but I wanted to mention that you can get the Panny for just over $1500. I know this because I'm also thinking about getting it. Amazon has it for $1520 and so does Best Buy.
Just wanted to give a heads up because you listed it at ~$1700.

^ thanks!...i just noticed that when i searched amazon... THAT price diff might be the deciding factor then. I just cant help loving the PQ and the blacks in this thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=920011&page=105

If picture quality is your main concern, go with the Pioneer. The Pannasonic will not beat it. No way. If the tuner, price and maybe resale are important, go with the Pannasonic.
The Pio is basically a somewhat stripped down Elite that was intended for the intergrator folks overseas. There were a bunch of them shipped to the states to be blown out to us regular folks since Pio is exiting the display business. Many folks won't recognize the model number in the future which is why I mention resale. For those in the know, it will hold it's desirability for what it is. If you've been reading that and other threads on AVS about these displays, you probably know all this. Just sayin'.;)
I think you would be pleased with either one, just make sure you won't have buyer's remorse knowing the picture on the Pio will be better. If you get the chance, go look at both of them. The closest thing to the KP Pio will be the 111FD or 101FD. The Pannys you can find lots of places. Let your own eyes be the judge. Take a Blu-Ray disc to test them out. Most store signal feeds stink.

^ right on thanks dukester! Ya I know the kuro is the stripped down elite, but as long as it an awesome picture, all the other add-ons do not matter to me. Also, it is much more elegant looking to me than the panny. The kuro does not have a stand, but I am wall mouting it anyway. So the 111fd and 101fd are available in most stores? I have only seen the stripped down KRP models on the internet(are they available in stores as well"?) the last thing I am worried about is "if" something every went wrong with the pioneer...how am I going to get warranty work if they are dropping the whole TV line:confused:

The reviews I have seen put the G10 as a near equal with the Kuros (includes Elite) save a very small difference in extreme black levels. The G10 is on my very short list.
If there is an issue with a Panasonic, service will be easy. Once Pioneer is sold out, they are done. Though both brands have been nearly bulletproof.
Amazon dropped the price...barely ($1503), but it's going in the right direction. I'm wondering if it will be cheaper on Memorial Day weekend, but I'm taking a risk waiting that long.

This would sway me to the Panny alone........

If you wait long enough they will be free.
27"-ers are now free. Bet you wish you had waited. :D

The video people on the S&V forums are all over the Kuro. Seems some are anxious to get one (mostly in larger sizes) before they are no longer manufactured. Not being that much of a video person (I'm really content with my Panasonic 50" 720p plasma) I must leave it to others that are.

Depends on where you live as to the availability of the pro models in stores. Places like BB or Costco won't have it but ones like Value Electronics (DTV TiVo Dealer here on the site) will have them. Don't think the KRP models are available in stores, either, except for folks like Value E. They have them...for now.
I would not worry too much about the warranty as long as you buy from an authorized dealer. Pio will be honoring their warranty and parts should be available well after that. Too many of them out there. Not too many problems from what I have been seeing on the sites with the Pios, anyway.

I recently bought the 111fd and the absolutely fabulous PQ alone makes it well worth the price. IMHO anyone who can grab one now will not be sorry in any way. I'm sure service will be available for the forseeable future so don't let that stop you.

By law, Pioneer is required to keep replacement parts for televisions for something like 7 years past inventory (at least by California's standards).
I wouldn't worry about your television needing fixed.
