Is there such an animal as a reasonably priced flat panel surround speaker? I'm setting up as 5.1, and need small/inconspicuous surround speaker. In-wall is not an option because it's drywall over concrete and I am concerened shelf mount will stick out too far. I'm really looking for something similar to a pair of Monsoon computer speakers I got several years ago--Stand or wall mountable, about 9" high, 1/3" thick, and sound great. Any ideas?
If not, any suggestions on some reasonable SMALL surrounds that will offer some decent sound? They will be paired with Athena ASF2's and an Athena centere channel.
thanks,
Mike

You might want to check out the Magnepan MMG-Ws (www.magnepan.com). They're priced at $300/Pair. However, they may not be as small as you like, but still woudl probably do well. They only have a 100Hz-16kHz response, but basically everything falls into that range, including your hearing. They're thin and inconsiculous and can be wall mounted on swiveling brackets. I have no personal experience with them, but they have good reviews. Check 'em out.

Thanks. They look nice and I will consider them, but they are a little big. I also understand that Magnepans need to be away from the wall a good distance to sound their best. Would that be true of these as well?

Also, I just checked the specs on these. They are a 5 Ohm impedence speaker. I've got a Yamaha rated at 110 20Hzto 20KHz * Ohms. I'm curious if it can drive these effectively.

They aren't flat panel, but NHT L5's have a very nifty
wall mount built into them (you can angle them up
to 180 degrees), and they are 3-way speakers
which sound really pretty good.
