I saw a pair of Infinity 4000s in a local thrift store for $50. I hesitated to get them even at that price, because they are not an EMIT model, and not one with which I am familiar. It's a three-way design; it looked like 10" woofers, 4"? mid and 1"? cone tweeter in a ported box. Is anyone here familiar with this model? Is a pair worth the $50?
FWIW, the woofer surrounds looked good, but I've not yet hooked them to a signal source.
Welcome to the forum, Joe!
Is there any more to the model name than "4000"? I can't find anything on an Infinity tower model with that name (except for your question over at AnandTech :)).
BTW, did you buy them already? If so, then you'll be the ultimate judge of if they were worth the price. If you like how they sound, then I'd say that they were worth it.

All the identification I remember was Infinity and 4000. They're a bookshelf model, not a tower, and the dearth of information on them (even on Infinity's site) is why I'm casting such a wide net asking for help.
No, I didn't buy them yet, though I'll likely take a chance tomorrow if they're still there. Fortunately, the shop that has them is in a strip mall whose anchor closed several years ago and hasn't yet been replaced. There's not a lot of traffic through there which is why I took a chance on missing them while I looked for data.
edit: thanks for the welcome. I've lurked here for a while, but this prompted me to post.
Wow, "dearth" is right! At least they list that speaker on their support page, but then there's really nothing there.
I've been trying to find info on that speaker, but I haven't yet found any. I did find this potentially useful thread (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63492) from another forum that discusses vintage Infinity speakers. I haven't gone through it, but you might find some good info there.

There was another thread at "that other forum" where they post Infinity pictures; Kbott has a picture of the 4000s (page 17 of the thread; unable to link due to low post count). I PMd him, and he replied that he owned that pair for only a few days, and doesn't remember specifics about them.
Who knew it could be so hard to find info on a major manufacturer's product in the 21st century?
I'd be interested to see those pictures. Two more posts, and you can put in the link if you're willing to do that.

Here's the page (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63523&highlight=infinity+4000&page=17). Second post down, first picture. Speaker on the left.
