View Full Version : jbl vs energy need help
I'm in the market for a new stereo. I've decided on the yamaha rx-v1500. But unsure on floor standing speakers. How about jbl or the energy. willing to spend about 800. Any advice greatly helpful
Hi
Out of the two listed Energy will provide better build quality
JBL consumer loudspeakers are not what they used to be
If you want to look at some high bang for the buck speakers Take a look at the RBH MC series

You can find plenty of small box speakers you can place on speaker stands within your budget. Depends however basically of your listening habits and music type.
These are really low budget types deigned here in Denmark. Normally not worth the money.

Between the two? Energy hands down. Not even close. Although, go out and listen to some other speakers. There are lots of speakers out their. Here is a starter's list in no particular order:
JBL
Energy
Polk
Infinity
Paradigm
Boston
Canton
Cambridge Sound Works
Axiom
Mirage
Athena
Klipsch
PSB
RBH
Vandersteen
B&W
Jamo
and many others. Go out and listen.

JBL makes top notch PA speakers, and absolute junk consumer audio speakers. Go with the Energy if you need to decide between the two.

I will second that. Energy is far superior. JBL Pro is great stuff. But the consumer stuff is dreck.

Everybody has (or have?) told you to go with Energy, i'll tell you the same thing, but no one told you which Energy type for $800 bucks. I will recomend you the Energy Connoisseur C-5 floorstanders ( i preffer the floorstanders, but i think it's a matter of taste, better said, i think is a matter of WAF).

Shinerman - thanks for the list of speaker manufacturers, I was about to buy some JBL E-100s for $290US each online but when I actually looked at them in person at Nebraska Furniture Mart, I was struck by all the plastic, still for $300 each can I do much better?

If you wanted, for around $800, you could get the Energy C-3 and the S8.3 sub. VERY high quality combo.

I started looking at some of the speakers in the list and I can see that $1000 each! doesn't touch most of them - sort of an eye-opener although I bet the markup at stereo shops is unbelievable...

Markup in audio gear is huge, period. No matter who you buy from, it's all way overpriced. But that's the market.
