View Full Version : Future of Analog outputs on Bluray players?
So will Bluray players move away from the 7.1analog outputs? Seems that everyone I have talked to is transitioning to newer receivers that either decode the new formats or accept it LPCM. I got a look for the first time at the panasonic dmp-bd60 last night and they were no analog outputs.

The DMP-BD80 will.
The new Oppo Digital BDP-083 will have 7.1 analog outputs available for BD, (as well as SACD/DVD-A) playback.
The same goes for the just released, or soon to be released, top line Sony, Samsung, and Panansonic BD players.

Daleav, if you would, please share your experience with the oppo bd and arcam avr 3509, i am assuming you are going 7.1 analog in to the arcam, how does it sound? i currently have an oppo on order and i am running a denon 3808, just want to get your take on wether or not i should go BACK to the avr350 (i sold it to get the denon, i know...stupid move) with bluray being the standard and the oppo doing everything internally, i would only need 1 set of multichannel ins to do the trick, i just wondered what you thought the tradeoffs might be.
Many thanks

Tradeoffs? No matter how you slice it, you will be at the mercy of the player's bass mgmt. Then for some like me who have a 7.1 rig, you won't be able to have 7.1 surround unless the soundtrack is natively so.
If your thing is fancy pre/pro's, there is always the possibility of adding, say, a 2ch pre/pro with HT bypass in addition to your SSP. You want one with "unity gain" that can bypass while off so that it doesn't imbue its own signature during HT playback. You can't do this with just a receiver though, as you'll need a "separate" amp (or an additional receiver).
If I were you though, I'd just stick with the Denon. Go blow your money on treating the room first, as that will have a more profound impact. ;)
