Blu Ray

I have a 5 year old Samsung 1080i DLP TV. I'm thinking about purchasing a blu ray player. This tv has one DVI connection. I was going to run the video thru that...How would I run the audio to my surround sound reciever from the blue ray player?? Would it be optical? My reciever is around 6 or 7 years old and does not have HDMI either....

If the receiver has mch analog inputs (6 for 5.1, or 8 for 7.1), then you will want a player that can internally decode and send via these multiple analog cables.

If your receiver lacks those, then you will use optical/coax but without access to the lossless formats. Otherwise, you will still get surround sound just like before, as DD or DTS, etc. Oh, on that note, I like Panasonic. I think some players, like the Sony 350, are unable to recode mch PCM, as they call it, to DD/DTS. However, the titles that only have mch PCM without an accompanying legacy track are extremely rare, and for the ones I've read about, I could hardly care less about those titles anyways.

Craig, please don't ever link and/or encourage the purchase of Monster products. I use two of their power centers I got from Amazon, but I'm never going to promote their sales AFAIK. They don't deserve our money, and I don't care how cheap you can get it for.

If you think that is a good price, Monoprice is STILL less. Their products are very good. I prefer everything that I've bought from them to any other Monster product I've purchased.
