I currently have an 8.3 system with Polk LSi 15s for the L/R and the Def Tech's all around: 2300 CLR center, BPA surrounds, BP2004 rear surrounds (ousted from L/R duty by the Polks), Pro Cinema back channel. I have 3 subs. The room is a dedicated HT 21x13.
I'm planning on going to an AT screen, about 120", and would like to move to a true LCR setup behind the screen.
My original plan was 3 Mythos Nines, available at best around $700/each. However, I recently learned about RBH's EMP line and the availability of the EMP EW35's at $170 each discounted. So 3 of these is less than a single Nine, and I tend to like that idea.:D
The reviews of the EMP 30s are solid, noting at worse not much bass extension. That's ok, I have 2 Earthquake Supernova's plus and a Pinnacle Sub.
Considering them only for movies, are the Nine's significantly better than the EWs? While I don't consider myself to have golden ears, I do want precise, slightly forward midrange.
It seems I could gets the EWs just to try out the LCR approach and if they work, fine, and if not, move them to secondary usage.
Thanks
