I just saw this ad from PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals). I guess NBC rejected it for whatever reason. Here is a link to it. Caution-not for the feint of heart.;)

I love how you had to clarify what PETA was XD

I don't even get it.... obviously nobody at PETA has ever met anyone that watches football so they just put girls and rock together and figured it would make sense? It would be like if I made an advertisement for India and it would just be like people dancing in robes around the Taj Mahal and some other random stuff I saw on TV.
This isn't like one of their salads where they just toss random stuff together and call it dinner.

The interesting thing is with the Internet it will probably get tons of views because of the hype around it and they won't have to pay superbowl advertising prices. Maybe, if they were really smart, they even planned to have it not get passed so that this would happen. If they did that, props to them... either way, props for having way better marketing than they have ever had.
Indeed, Sensi.
Heck, for all we know, NBC never even saw the ad. :)

That add blew chunks! peta should do everyone a favor by leading by example. Save the animals, kill yourself.
More than anything, that add will appeal to a very small segment of the world: people with cucumber, broccoli stalk, or carrot fetishes.

Thirty years ago a group like PETA could never hope get any traction.
They seemed to be comprised of mostly women.
Now that we're devolving into a very 'soft' society, I can see this group gaining market share.
Especially since I can see many men slowly transforming into a bunch of flip-flop wearing meterosexuals.

Protein and iron can easily be had with a vegan diet. Just do some searching online, and you will find this information for yourself.
Or if you are too lazy to do that, just click on the links below:

It is interesting that some people don't seem to "get" this ad. For those people: How many of you complain about beautiful women in ads for other things, such as cars or boats or whatever other thing in which the women are there just to get your attention? Isn't it hypocritical to complain about beautiful women with vegetables in ads, but not complain about beautiful women with cars in ads? It seems that something else must be bothering you.
In the case of the PETA ad, there is some relevance, as a healthy lifestyle (including a healthy diet) is good for one's ability to perform sexually. Clogging your blood vessels with cholesterol can lead to impotence, because blood flow is essential for an erection.

Like anything in life moderation is best. Nothing wrong with a little animal protein. The problem is that meat becomes the center of the meal and for some the only part. For me its a little meat and lots of the other stuff. So you could say that ones diet is like audio, we should all strive for balance :o

People should have 1-1.5g of protein per pound they weigh, which is possible on a vegan diet, but difficult and also very calorie packed. When you read vegan information sheets, they generally state only 50g or 60g are needed, or even less, which is very low, especially for a male.
The good thing is that one look at human teeth and you can figure out we are meat eaters, so, its kind of a null issue. If people want to not eat meat that is fine, but, leave me alone.
I would imagine that getting protein is a lot easier on a vegetarian diet compared to a vegan diet. Milk and other dairy products are excellent sources.
High caloric content might be a good thing, Sensi. As the song goes, "red beans and rice didn't miss her...baby got back." :D

Nod, but the trouble is that as you become an adult often you become increasingly lactose intolerant (which is just a fancy name for milk alergies, which most humans have to varying degrees).
Nuts like almonds are a great source, but, have a lot of calories... which equal fat chicks (baby got back) versus the thin ones we see here. :)
Nuts...are a great source...

I find it curious that the 'left' is against the exploitation of women.
They champion their right's, equal pay, etc.
I guess exploitation is ok when it's a left wing group like PETA doing the exploitation.

I can't stand that group. Peta kills more animals per year than the humane society in most areas: http://www.newsweek.com/id/134549
They kill 85% of all animals they "rescue". Big business hiding under the guise of animal rights.

I'm with you Clint, PETA is an awful group to support. HSUS is another up-and-coming animal rights outfit that has caused a lot of damage.
Anybody who visits my web page gets to see the banner for www.petakillsanimals.com. In 2007 they killed more than 90%.
Peta kills more animals per year than the humane society in most areas...
Where did you get that fact/impression, Clint? According to the sited article, PETA has killed 17000 animals over a 10 year period (1700 on average per year). Shelters kill 4 million a year. Out of the 4 million, I didn't see an indication of what percentage is from humane societies.
I'm asking, not debating. BTW, I don't support PETA as a group. I don't know enough about them, and some of what I've seen from them upsets me. I do absolutely believe in and support the ethical treatment of animals (humans included) - I'm just not convinced that PETA helps in achieving that goal.
jvgillow
01-30-2009, 08:52 AM
A lot of local shelters are moving to the "no-kill" type when possible, which PETA is actually against. They would rather the shelters continue to euthanize than try to find more temporary/permanent homes. Both sides have their arguments to defend their position.
Here's a fairly recent blog article about it: http://www.petconnection.com/blog/2008/12/18/heartless-in-houston-peta-bashes-wingrad-no-kill/

"Ethical" Defined : Story from Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald
After more than 100 dead dogs were dumped in a trash dumpster over four weeks, police in Ahoskie, N.C., kept an eye on the trash receptacle behind a supermarket. Sure enough, a van drove up and officers watched the occupants throw in heavy plastic bags. They detained the two people in the van and found 18 dead dogs in plastic bags in the dumpster, including puppies; 13 more dead dogs were still in the van. Police say the van is registered to the headquarters of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and the two occupants, Andrew B. Cook, 24, and Adria Joy Hinkle, 27, identified themselves as PETA employees. An autopsy performed on one of the dogs found it was healthy before it was killed. Police say PETA has been picking up the animals -- alive -- from North Carolina animal shelters, promising to find them good homes. Cook and Hinkle have been charged with 62 felony counts of animal cruelty. In response to the arrests PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said it's against the group's policy for employees to dump animals in the trash, but "that for some animals in North Carolina, there is no kinder option than euthanasia." (Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald)

From a health standpoint, it is possible to get all the nutrients one needs with a vegan diet, and it is possible to get all the nutrients one needs with an omnivorous diet. However, the vegan will have this advantage: Animal fats are bad for you, and the vegan won't be taking in any of them. It may be possible while eating an omnivorous diet to take in so little animal fat that it will not noticeably harm one's health, but that doesn't make it a good idea. It is probably also possible to smoke so little tobacco that it won't noticeably harm one's heath, but that doesn't make it a good idea to smoke just a little.

If you pay someone else to do something, don't you think you are responsible for it? If not, then Mafia leaders typically are not responsible for any deaths, because they typically never directly kill anyone; they pay someone else to do it. If you buy meat, you are paying the people who made it, and you are paying them for doing whatever it is that they did in making it.
As for certain animals being bred to be eaten, of course, that is true. But you seem to take it for granted that they should be bred for that purpose. I think most animal rights people would say that they should not be bred in the first place.

What is done on a small family run farm is not representative of what goes on with the majority of the meat supply, which is mostly produced by large companies (in addition to the fact that dairy cows are not the majority of the meat supply). Did the farm where you work slaughter any cows? If not, then your experience is totally irrelevant to any slaughter, much less to what happens with large beef producers.
