need help - in-wall or in-ceiling for kitchen/dinning room??

I'm working on plans for a kitchen/dinning room remodel and want to go with in-wall and/or in-ceiling speakers. There seems to be little info out there about proper placement & limited reviews so I'd like to get suggestions from the experts :) .

I'm also trying to find a good solution for amp & cd player that is either wall mounted or would fit nicely in a cabinet.

Apologies for the rudimentary design below - the rooms are two joined rectangles of somewhat similar dimentions with an 8ft opening between them with only about a 12" "frame" around the opening (sides & top). Ceilings are flat and 10' high.

just saw what the posting looked like - sorry about that. The kitchen is 12.5h x 15.5w and the dinning room is 18h x 15w - the opening between them is 8.

How about speaker brands? I've done some reading on Polk, Klipsch, SpeakerCraft, Niles, CambridgeSoundworks, etc... and am wondering if something like CambridgeSoundWorks type speakers can produce anything like Niles or SpeakerCraft.

I gotta add Sonance to the list that I have listened to and have been impressed with. Sonance does a ton of work on in wall speakers and quality.
