View Full Version : Movies Made Better By Alcohol...

...After downing quite a bit of beer and a few shots I decided to watch Alien vs Predator: Requiem on BD instead of Iron Man on BD. Why I watched a turd like this can only be summed up somewhere between, "I got hammered," and "it seemed like a good idea at the time." Oddly, for the first time I understood all the misguided plot points and other quirks of the movie that never made any sense at all to me and I actually enjoyed the movie quite a bit.
The darkness of the picture, so dark I had to strain at times to see what was happening, followed by the bad acting and the rapid cut scenes seemed to blend into a mesmerizing meld of murderous mayhem. The kind of mayhem that can only be understood and enjoyed by those who've thoroughly studied and followed the franchises in question or those who find themselves mentally incapacitated, either through psychological malfunction or severe inebriation (as in my case;)).
Sooooo.....
.......it got me wondering, what other movies have people found to be quite entertaining that under "normal" conditions they would find to be downright awful?

Hm. I might not go to the extent of saying Transformers was downright awful, but I find it a lot more enjoyable after downing a few.
OTOH, I think I need to take a break from action movies. I've been inducing some ringing of the ears. :( We'll see how successful I can possibly be with that.

Mulholland Drive made more sense (and by that, I meant I didn't feel completely lost as to the plot...only slightly) after drinking several, uh, beverages.

Napoleon Dynamite isn't very funny, but when you are drunk it's hilarious.

Almost everything is more fun with alcohol, except maybe mowing the lawn

That depends on what you mean by "lawn" and whose it is.

LMAO! Yeah, I was thinking gas powered mower, not "other" types of lawns and mowing.

In high school I found that I could finally understand Pink Floyds "The Wall" after smoking the "erb" and when getting drunk, I like to watch college comedies like "Road Trip" or "Van Wilder" and 'Dazed and Confused" and even though it's a stupid movie I have to have a beer in hand if "St. Elmo's Fire" is on.
Also last weekend I watched "Across The Universe" on Showtime or HBO (one of those) and even though I don't smoke the "erb" no more, I felt this movie would benefit highly (pun intended) if I were a wee bit baked.

Yeah, I need to have "few" to get really into it. A couple means I'm gonna fall asleep. None means I will probably know what happened in the movie if someone asks me the next day.

Not if you have a rider mower! Major fun! But wait.. could you then get a DUI?

I did think about that, and yes you can :) Our yards here aren't big enough to need a riding mower :(

I thought it was pretty good sober... and it looked fantastic on BD.
Orgazmo... HORRIBLE sober, hilarious drunk

I watched Bottle Rocket last night, and just laffed my butt off man. I saw it years ago, and didn't laff so hard at that time. Maybe it was the booze?!:o:D:)
Looked excellent IMO, on Criterion. Makes me very excited to see the others, and I'm very excited about seeing The Third Man for the first time. Also, a couple of the songs had excellent imaging/space for a movie soundtrack, if not on a classical recording level. I was pleased with that. DTSMA if I recall.
My parents will be here for 12 days, so I'm guessing that I'll have a few recommendations by the time their trip is over. Why? We'll be watching movies, and odds are good that I won't be sober. :)

Beerfest is a great movie to watch while drinking. In fact, its almost impossible not to drink beer while watching it.

Most recent horror movies require beer to be believable. Either you start giggling and making stupid remarks or you slip into giddy gullability.

Does watching Three's Company on magic mushrooms qualify as a valid contribution to this thread? It was extra funny as I recall.

Army of Darkness is good without, but even better with. Add a few of good friends and a raucus time can ensue.

Doesn't everything look better under the influence? I've had some coyote dates...oh, never mind...but it did make me give up drinking and otherwise ingestion of reality altering substances.
So now most movies don't make any sense at all.

Road Trip, Van Wilder and ALL National Lampoon Movies (especially the stinkers from the last 5 years like Dorm Daze) are best experienced under the influence of alcohol.
AtU is a Sony movie, so you likely saw it on Starz.
Classics like Animal House are good whether drunk or sober.

Oh d*mn yea - I laughed my *** off watching that one... and I was sober.
I seem to recall that Lost in Translation was very good after a quantity of booze (it just makes it even more chilled).

Clockwork Orange is great while drunk. :D :D
Notice, I never said it sucked sober, it's just a bit better with alke-hol :D

Beerfest anyone? After watching it in theaters with friends we immediately went to the liquor store and got stinko. We did this 2 nights in a row it had such a lasting effect.
When I bought it on DVD everyone had at least 6 cold ones with their names on it (I had 8, 4 Kilkenny and 4 Guiness, made black and Tans). Due to the huge amounts of "food" in those drinks I threw up before the movie was even over. Then I went to a party and to get in I needed to take 2 shots of Tequila.
I just picked up Beerfest on Blu Ray, so we'll probably have another booze required movie night for that. I guess I'll need to lift the ban for that evening.

I've never drunk, but I've found sleep deprivation to be equally helpful.
For example the funniest movie I ever saw was Scary Movie at around 3 am after a 20 hour day of moving my brother into his apartment.
one time i was with a group of jet-lagged people on a tour from LA and they laughed at all my jokes! So apparently something is needed to enjoy my humor.

I personally love Transformers and thought the movie was fantastic. Maybe it's a generational thing. Though I bet it is better a little less sober.
Of course I am not a movie critic(unless they are messing with Star Trek or Stargate). I look at it like art which is why I can't understand why everyone is so critical of movies. But then again they probably can't understand why I am always messing with the picture and audio. I have a hard time sitting through movie because I'm always tweaking everything lol.

When I get hammered I start threads that get a rise out of people....the amount of beer I've consumed is directly proportionate to the responses and subsequant answers!

I think beer goes with any movie, but certain movies are way better with beer.
Napoleon Dynamite became watchable.
Personal favorites made better are Dazed and Confused and Office Space.
