I'm going with the Energy Reference Connoisseur series speakers. I noticed that the 7.1 package deal on the Energy site includes 4 RC-R Surrounds. Wouldn't I only want 2 of those for the surrounds and a set of bookshelf speakers for the rear? Could I use another set of RC-70's if I wanted or would that be overkill?

Technically yes, but the RC-R's have a setting to be Bi, Di, or Monopole.

Yes that would do it for you. Then you could try them with their different settings (bi,di,mono) and see which you prefer.

They will definitely look better on the wall compared to bookshelf speakers. Also, you may prefer a different sound field then THX specifications.
