Black Verticle line on plasma screen

IMy new Samsung Plasma EDTV just developed a vertical black line on the right side about 4 inches from the side. I am trying to determine if it an adjustment issue or a defect. Samsung's website says to ship it back to them. Before I do that I want to make sure I have not done something wrong.

Not if it is new, you didn't do anything. Defective.

Dead stripes (vertical mostly) are common plasma panel defects. I've seen it on Pioneer, Fujitsu and many others. It's a sign of display panel failure. Cure: panel replacement.

Agreed, return it.
I have fixed a panasonic 42" with a similar problem recently and it turned out to be a defective power supply board, failing to supply 14V to the deflection Board.
