View Full Version : Just received my WALL-E {Monday 13th}
UPS just dropped off my WALL-E 3 disc Blu-ray. Ordered on Fri the 14th from Amazon and it was marked shipped within a couple of hours. Hopefully this will continue with pre-orders arriving at least on the release day or a day early, or more.

I have had varying experiences. Sometimes day of, sometimes next day, sometimes a couple of days later, etc. Still worth the price savings and convenience.

If you didn't know, Pixar is rather synonymous with reference PQ/AQ. In any case, if you were wondering about the upgrade from DVD, here are Xylon's caps (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1085322)
Can't wait for mine. Skipped it in the theater, although now I just skip theaters altogether...
Got a chance to sample Wall-e, incredible picture and sound, as expected. DTS ES MATRIX came up on the receiver, first Blu ray to do this, I think. Generally it's DTS NEO:6 for DTS material. Watched the new short Burn-e, pretty cute {of course} and looks and sounds incredible as well {DD EX}. Can't wait to watch it all.

Great sound and picture. I love that this is in DTS HD Master Audio. The Hulk so far has had the best sound IMO. Although Hellboy II is up there with it.

Isn't this the first Pixar BD with DTS-HD/MA instead of TrueHD? IMO they should just stop doing TrueHD and just have DTS-HD/MA on everything. Every single TrueHD track released in the past couple of months (Iron Man, Transformers) has really lacked in comparison to the DTS-HD/MA track in every way. Dynamics are always off the charts with the DTS-HD stuff. Is Dark Knight going to be TrueHD?
Is Dark Knight going to be TrueHD?
I believe so, unfortunately.

Count me in as another MA fan. I'm really glad I held off on Bluray until players finally could handle this codec. :)
Band of Brothers has some serious midrange peaking during battles. Never heard anything quite like that thru my speakers before.

I agree 100%. Did anyone pick up the Clone Wars on BR? I bought it and have been watching and found the sound to be lackluster. The THX intro at the beginning sounds great but the actual movie has to be turned WAY up. Anyone else experience this?

Did you disable DRC that is autoflagged by TrueHD? (non issue with MA or PCM). If not, try it. ;)

Dynamic Range Control. Basically compression. TrueHD, every time I've looked, auto-flags this wherever the unpacking of the codec is taking place. If you are using PS3, then its in the player obviously.
The worst, by far, that I've heard was with Iron Man. TBH, I didn't know of this issue until this title. A lot of folks here didn't know until they watched this as well, and saw me complaining about this crap. I think mike c said he was going to come out of retirement as a hit man, or something. I think he's offering deals to AHers as a promotional thing. Wanna kill anyone?

Where is the DRC option in the PS3? Haven't seen anything like that.

Audio settings menu.
I have no idea if by doing it once, that the setting will "stick". j garcia once said it does, and Gov also said that his Pio receiver will stick as well. With my Onkyo 805, I have to disable auto-drc every freaking time I have a TrueHD track.
p.s. WallE arrived last night. I hope to see it tonight. :)

Well my receiver is PCM only so I guess as long as I have the PS3 turn it off I should be fine.

Yes, of course. Like I said, wherever the decoding is taking place. With a PS3, there's only one place.

hate to bump this, but I have a question.
What shipping option did you folks who pre-ordered this choose?
I'm going to order Dark Knight from Amazon but I don't want to have to wait until the next week before I get it. It'd almost be worth the extra $5 not to have to wait a single day. :)

I've only ever used the free shipping option from Amazon. Every pre-order I've made showed up the day before (Monday) or the day of (Tuesday) the official release date, most were the former. That said, I'm sure where you're located in relation to where it ships from can make a big difference with delivery time.

I watched this last week. I thought it was good, but it isn't up to the same level as previous works. I actually found the short (magic hat/rabbit) included in the extras to be far more entertaining.

In contrast, I loved this movie. Seen it 2.5 times already. Up there with Nemo among the best, for me.

Rented the BD from Netflix. I thought it was pretty good. It had some decent LFE as well.

Watching it for the second time, and the LFE is actually very impressive really. I wonder why I haven't heard more about it?

I have to say I really liked this movie. It is now my favorite Pixar flick. I liked the story, the animation and the sound. I can see how a few reviewers are rating this as one of the best movies of the year.

Funny I did not think the Rat movie was all that great. Before this the Incredibles was my favorite Pixar flick.

The Incredibles is my #2 movie. The Rat was probably just too much for that little sub of yours. I bet a nice, used Servo15 would serve you well and you could enjoy the Rat.:DFunny I did not think the Rat movie was all that great. Before this the Incredibles was my favorite Pixar flick.
