Hey guys, I am always looking forward to seeing an upcoming movie. Right now, I am really looking forward to seeing " The Day The Earth Stood Still" starring one of my favs-Keaneu Reeves. It looks to be a great movie.
I also think the movie "Four Christmases" looks to be quite good as well. There are several great actors in this one. Robert Duvall, Vince Vaughn, and Reese Wetherspoon to name a few. Personally, I like movies like this especially around the holidays.
Jim Carey has a new one coming out too called "Yes Man". This guy is just absolutely hilarious. Sometimes, he can be a bit over the top so to speak. But, nevertheless, quite entertaining. I am sure there are others out there. So, what are YOU looking forward to seeing? Care to take a few minutes and chime in? Thanks for sharing if you do. :):)

I'm looking forward to Tropic Thunder and the Dark Knight.
Oh, wait. You probably weren't talking about upcoming DVD releases. Those are the only movies I watch, though! :)

The Day The Earth Stood Still, original is a classic I watch when ever it's on. I just hope the new remake doesn't become another enviro rant like The Happening was. The articles I've read do sound good though.
The new Star Trek also should be quite interesting. JJ Abrams said it'll be more Star Wars like. The story sounds really interesting and looks like it'll have a fairly differant look than the previous Star Treks.

Adam, I do not see where that would pose a problem do you? Why not list some of the newer releases that will be coming available for home use. BTW, Tropic Thunder was good, but thought it was going to be funnier than it was. The Dark Knight-well lets just say it is AWESOME! Well, Ledger was for sure. ;);)

Yes sir, I sure do. he is a great actor. In a way, he can be kind of strange at times. But, nevertheless, very talented imho. The movie looks to be great and I can't wait to see it myself.

Noticed that Twilight is due out very soon. It looks to be decent. Who knows, I may just go see this oneas well. If not, then it will be a rental. Just glad to see some decent movies coming out. Last year during this time it seemed the movies were mostly chick-flicks. ;);) No pun intended, but they are jusy not my cup of tea so to speak.

This is sort of a semi hijack, seeing as how there haven't been too many comments made on the up-coming DVD releases like Adam mentioned:
I don't see anyone posting about pre-ordering HANCOCK, or it's upcoming release.(end of this month, right?)
I pre-ordered it(on Blu Ray), and I am really looking foward to getting it in the mail from Amazon.com. Was it really bad or something? I know I made a total SH#T purchase when I pre-ordered "The Happenning". Of course I didn't realize how bad it was until I actually watched it though.:o
Just hoping I didn't make another SH#T purchase is all. Then again, the compiled list of critics on that movie seemed to be a 50/50 split on those of them who liked it, and those of them who didn't.
I am a sucker for movies with people in it that can fly though...:D Joe B.

Personally, I thought Hancock was a lot better than The Happenning. In other words, I think you, at the very least, made a better choice this go around. As to how much better-only you can decide. Thanks for posting. ;);)

I saw Four Christmases last night and it was pretty good for a holiday comedy. The overall message was the usual one..."we all have weird families but at Christmas we just have to figure out how to make it work". Before I sound too cynical, I have to admit that the actors you mention make it all work by seeming like they really believe the message. That makes it definitely a cut above the usual holiday pap. What's also interesting is seeing tiny Reese standing next to big big Vince. Even with about 6 inch heels she looks like she is standing in front of a brick wall. Nevertheless her spirit carries the movie along real well. I usually don't like Christmas movies, but I can actually recommend this one.
I'm real curious about the new Day the Earth Stood Still. The old one is one my all time favorite Sci Fi flicks. I hope this does it justice, but I am afraid that the temptation to use digital FX to disintegrate cities will prevail. I thought that the premise of the original was a warning, not the apocalypse. I guess we will see.

Anyone else going to buy any of the new Criterion titles? I've never bought any Criterion before, and AFAIK, I've never watched one!
I am most particularly interested in The Third Man, as its supposed to be the uber classic. The Last Emperor as well.

I saw the trailer for the Punisher a few days ago and it looks bad-a$$. So far on the Rotten Tomatoes its got a 17% approval by Tomatometer critics, 6% by top critics, and 67% by the RT community. Kind of hard to get a feeling when they don't all agree. I'll have to wait to hear what people I know think of it. Anyone see it yet?
I saw the end of a commercial for the Day the Earth Stood Still and wasn't sure what to make of it, all I really saw was everyone running and the Earth being blown over. It looked flashy and like it lacked the message of the original. Can't really tell from a tv commercial.

I'm reservedly curious about this one. As a fan of classic sci-fi, the 1951 "Day" is one of the greats. It was a movie that was made before much in the way of digital or analog FX and that worked because of the intelligence of the script and acting. The trailer for the new one shows a brief scene of massive disintegration that seems to belie the idea of a harmless demonstration that was at the core of the original movie. I also can't imagine Keanu showing the dignified intelligence of Michael Rennie as Klattu. Nevertheless, I can't resist the draw of a big budget sci-fi epic that is trying to look important, so I will be in line when it opens.

Since the titles are often older, they probably will not make the very top of PQ lists, but they do search for titles with an excellent master/source to really fix up. They typically choose classics that a real film buff might be into, but perhaps not for J6P looking to test the subwoofer out.
Here are the preliminary releases for BD. (They've been around since Laserdisc, I believe). You will see the very high prices, but Amazon is much better. However, you simply have to wait longer to receiver them.
