Has any one listened to the new Hellboy II: The Golden Army? Apparently this disc is the first release to incorporate GenAudio’s "AstoundSurround" mixing technology. Just wondering if this is more hype then anything else. Seen the movie in the Theater and it was not all that great but if the audio track is as good as what they claim it may be worth buying for a demo disc.
I'll be getting it today on regular DVD - don't know if that will have the audio that you mentioned, or if it's just on the Blu-ray. I look forward to watching it, as I liked the first one quite a bit and thought the audio was great in the original.

Adam, if you like the first one, then I a sure you will will this one. This is especially true if you like Pearlman. He always has a humorous side to him. I liked it myself. ;);)

I just received an email yesterday from Amazon.com, telling me that my pre-ordered Blu Ray copy of Hell Boy 2 was on it's way.
Ill let you know if the new "Astound Sorround" format is on it, and if it's "All That". Joe B.

I wasn't going to buy this disc but the BD Live feature of being able to ask Guillermo Del Toro questions in a live chat might actually make it worth it. I saw this in theaters also and aside from great sound, it wasn't a good movie.

Cool, you can ask him why it sucked so hard. Everything in this film seemed forced, and wasn't very believable (Not the monster parts, but the love story and character interactions).

You guys are really getting my expectations up for when I watch this. :D

Hey, in the long run, you want someone to say the blunt truth.

You are a wise man. That is indeed true...if it was before I rented it. :D

I would rent it first. I also didn't pay to see either Hell Boy movie, so it's not like I lost money, this one just really sucked.

Lmao.......I agree the love story was very cheezy. However, there were a few scenes here and there that Pearlman was up to his old self. I got a few laughs out of this movie. Some of the monster scenes were not done too well either. Perhaps, this is one of those movies that would be a good choice when there is practically nothing else to rent. :p:p

The Hulk's reign as most dynamic Blu-Ray disc was short lived ... new Champion is Hellboy II. The LFE track on it is just unreal. About 50% of the movie, my couch feels like a vibrating massage chair, there's just a low rumble throughout. It was also the first time I've ever heard my subs bottom out when on THX ref volume.
Great movie too, I really enjoyed it. It's probably my 2nd favorite of all the comic book movies, 1st being Dark Knight.

Man, I hope you are right because you are convincing me to buy this movie.
I thought the movie itself was okay - not great, but not bad like Indiana Jones 4.
But if the SQ is as awesome as you say, then I'm in.:D

You have got to be joking? This movie was terrible; easily one of the worst movies of the year. It wouldn't have been as bad if they had released it direct to video, because the expectations would have been low from the beginning. Comparing it to The Dark Knight is ridiculous - offensive actually.

For this Summer, I would put Dark Knight #1, Hulk #2, Iron Man #3, and Hellboy #4.
I thought they kind of made Hellboy II a little "girly" - not that there's any wrong with that. The singing part was pathetic IMO.
What kind of superhero sings?
Even "Superman Returns" didn't sing, and he was really sissy - not that there's anything wrong with that.:D
But in terms of overall FUN FACTOR, I would put Hulk #1 & Iron Man #2.

Singing? Say it aint so! I bought the Blu-Ray which I should have in a few days. The review on ign.com stated the sound was pristine, 5.1 DTS HD Master audio. One of my reasons for getting it. I guess the "singing" will sound especially good huh?:D I hope that part isn't too lame... I haven't seen the movie but hopefully that wont put me off too much.
On another note, Wall-E comes out tuesday. I read that this movies will be reference quality for both picture and sound (5.1 DTS HD Master audio) Can't wait to pick it up. (I actually saw this movie and enjoyed it)

I'll buy it too on BD because the PQ/SQ should be Reference Quality. Then again, I heard that before.

I enjoyed Hellboy II much more than the first one. Maybe I am just crazy.
I started watching this tonight. I stopped it after about ten minutes. I'm sure that I'll finish it later.

I liked it ... sure it had some parts that'd have been fine to leave out, like fish boy falling for Princess whatever. But overall I like the character that Ron Perlman plays, and thought the story was good (not great), but cinematography and soundtrack were amazing.

Way to spoil some of the story.

I noticed that it was out on DVD, and have thought about getting it. I liked the first one (and I am a huge fan of the comic books.) I hope I won't be disappointed.

It's not even a rental as far as I'm concerned, I don't care how great the audio track on it is. I made the mistake of renting Hellboy I, and ended up turning the damn thing off halfway through it was so terrible. Maybe if I was still a 13 year old boy with collection of comic books and Now and Later candy I might have found this enjoyable. I shall not subject myself to Part II of this wretchedness....

I thought the first one was OK, but this one, despite being visually more impressive, just lacked in every category. It just goes to show you that even with great cinematography, great sound and great effects, and an excellent director you can still end up with a very pedestrian movie.

Received my pre-order BD copy 2 days ago from Amazon.com. They packaged it in a square display box that has a limited edition figurine behind a plastic window. Then the movie is in a regular BD box with a hologram type of image of Hellboy on the slip cover.(just like the new HULK BD slip cover)
The BD movie box is hidden behind the figurine with a sheet of white backround paper in front of it
I am almost afraid to take the movie itself out of the display type box because it looks so damn good.(Came with a digital copy too for downloading to a PC).
Haven't watched it yet, but with all the mixed reviews here, I still haven't picked a movie night for the viewing at my Home Theater. Maybe Saturday though.
