The title pretty much says it all but other than that trying to keep it under the $300 range. I want to see if there would be a huge difference sonically between a SS one and my current Bellari tube.

A difference? It's possible that the tube unit is designed to produce substantial even order distortion, and it's possible that it has a poor RIAA EQ tolerance - thus causing frequency response deviation(s).

A Creek OB-15 should make a good transparent solid state pre amp. It has dual modes, too, so you can use MM or MC cartridges. At about $140, it should be in your budget.

Take a look at the NAD PP2 or PP1 (older model) you can find them used for about 100 bucks on audiogon regularly.
