Focal 705V vs. Axiom M3

I'm looking for a set of bookshelf speakers, and I don't know much about it. I've got different people pushing me on two different models: the Focal 705V and the Axiom M3. I can't find much information comparing these two brands. Are they in different leagues? The Focals are about $100 more, but I've got a discount on those, so money is not really an issue.

Speakers are very subjective. If you can get a discount on the Focals can you demo them at your house before you buy? The axioms are an internet direct company with a 30 day inhome trial so you could have them sent and see for yourself which ones you like.

I havent heard axiom speakers but focal makes pretty darn good speakers. They are one of only a hand full of loudspeaker companies that build their speakers from the ground up. You cant go wrong with them...

Get both if you can. Listen to both, keep the pair you like and return the pair you do not. I am not sure about Focal return policy or auditioning but Axiom has a 30 day in home trial period/return policy on their speakers (no questions asked).

I heard the Focals in-store, but there's a no refund policy so I won't be able to hear them side-by-side. I've ordered the Axioms, and will give them a shot. Thanks! If anyone else has advice would love to hear it.

Never heard an Axiom in my life. I've heard a whole slew of Focals, and my opinion ranges from being totally unimpressed, to hating them, depending on the model. The 700/Chorus series, I'm just unimpressed, no hatred there. Veiled, IMO.

Buy some Ascends. Either the entry 170 SE, or if you can swing it, the 340 which is on sale for the time being. Free shipping atm as well. That's my vote.

I have only heard the Focal be 927 and it smoked the Axioms I think it ws the 80..Just my 2 cents but there was no comparison

I don't think the Axioms will beat the Focals either. I've heard the M3 and a number of Focals and I agree, no contest.

If you have the axioms on order, take them into the store and do a side by side audition with material familiar to you.

Take enough time to really listen to both speakers. I am sure that one or the other will apeal to you more with a bit of listening.

Don't forget to take notes so you can let us know how they compare.
