Looking for advice on a nice package around $750-$1000.00

It will be used primarly for video game use but will also be used for some music.

2.1 or above. Not really too concerned about rear speakers as I said this is going to be a hybrid comming form the computer.

So throw at me what ya got.

Welcome to the forum!

This type of question has come up in the past, and a search through the forum might give you some good info while you're waiting for responses to this thread (it's late on Sunday, so you might not get much until tomorrow morning).

Yea i didnt find much in my search in re to computer setups.

I dont want to spend a fortune as sound isnt my main concern /duck lol

The max I wanted to spend was $1k as stated and the only reason for the chosen packages was more they were available using Amex points through Comp USA. I wasnt real specific in my orginal request however.

I hear ya! It's good to have a planned budget. The thread to which I linked was for a system that cost between $700 and $1000, so it seemed like a good starting point.

Sub

and Amp

I dont think 5.1 is really going to work so well with the way it will be displayed even with stand etc.

Logitech Z5500 for gaming. If you don't care that much about music, but just want to hear it and have decent bass, this is the system for you. Easily hits over 100dBs, and connects really well to a PC (being a PC speaker system). It has a control center where everything hooks up plus a remote for flexibility. Did I mention the volume actually goes to 11? I had the 2.1 version of this system with an 8inch version of the subwoofer, and it filled my backyard with sound. No need to worry about stands, flip the base on the satellite speakers and they turn into wall mounts.

Save some money, and get a system designed to game.

I guess your listening area and preferences need to be defined. With a "computer or office" setup there are some options, seaching that, as adam mentioned, would be a good idea.

CompUSA, at least their website, has a good selection of products. I never realized how many A/V products that they carried.

Something to consider with using the left/center/right set up with no rears that you're talking about for FPS (based on your thread about a monitor) is that you may not hear the people coming up behind you. For all I know, there are sound modes that just use those three speakers, but I didn't find that on my system a couple of weeks ago when I was playing COD4. I have the same set up (left/center/right with no rears), and I set it to stereo so that I could hear everything. Just a thought.

That said, you could go with a 5.1 or 7.1 HTIB and not use the rear speakers, or a 5.1 or 7.1 receiver and just not hook up any rear speakers. I mention that in case you were thinking that you couldn't use a 7.1 receiver like the Onkyo 506 (not to be patronizing...it's come up before).

You could also just go with a nice PC speaker system. How close will you be to these speakers? Some of the higher end PC systems are quite nice. I'm happy with my $80 Creative system that I bought back in 2004.

EDIT: I see that Sheep already mentioned that last option.

The 5500 was something I had looked into as well.

I guess I dont want to cut myself short for those movies and the music days.

Clairty is greater than sub sound.

Since my car has a high end audio output-

2 15" JL w6's - in the Benz
and 2 12" Kenwood Subs in the Supra

I have all the bass I need in those setups.

I do have a tendancy to like Cerwin Vega and Bose for home audio just from the small selections I have heard.

So was looking for some reviews or some suggestions since im not an audiophile.

Edit: I live in Daytona Beach if there is some good suggestion on places here to go.

In regards to the TV I had chose a LCD but after seeing some of the new front projectors i was wondering the comparison.

No it was mine, since typically FPS does equal first person shooter hehe.

Our display typically has MMORPG's playing on ti to draw in massive attention.

So the Frames are very imortant to not cause shading, ghosting, etc...

Have you heard the Z5500s? I recommend a listen before buying, as they may or may not live up to your music standards. I had to EQ my Z2200s but after it was fine for PC listening.

Dynaudio BM5A active monitors.

They are well regarded studio monitors, very accurate. The sound is extremely nuetral. As far as music playback, a lot of music is mastered on Dynaudios, so, you can imagine they'll sound pretty darn good. They are also active, meaning the amplifier is built in, so you won't need to get a receiver or anything. Also makes for a cleaner install, imo.

The inputs on them are XLR, so depending on your sound card, you'll need to adapt accordingly. There are inexpensive soundcards with XLR outputs now, check out M-Audio. If not, you can adapt pretty easily to whatever you need.

After you buy cabling, you'll be a tad over budget, but all in all not too bad. These are probably what I'm going to buy when I finally get some decent computer speakers. ;)

Z5500's

Well I picked up some of these with AMEX points I had left over.

I am going to still buy an additional home audio set.

But I guess that takes some searching and looking first. before asking. Budget on that will be aroudn $2k I guess? I dunno time to being the search..
