Who knows whats up with wattage standards,  all I heard were rumors that manufacturers would eventually have to comply with something more universal than their own "ideal"
make up standards.

Don't know about universal but good manufacturers already quote their wattage with the IHF standards as well as DIN.

I thought Yamaha rates power consumption based on each channel drive at 1/6th power as per UL, thus how their receivers only appear to draw very little power despite their much higher output capabilities.

BTW, unless otherwise stated, I wouldn't assume an amp vendors power output specs are for all channels driven simultaneously.

As per the specs listed on the manual of my Yamaha MX-1 power amp as well as my DSP-AZ1 amp, it is IHF and DIN. You also get continuous rating at 8ohm, 4ohm and 2ohm as well as dynamic.
