Wow man! Very nice. Yeah, you know, I'm stuggling with that very thing. I want to get a BD player, but I sure would like to get a new Emo 3 or 5 channel amp too(plus the BD player), . Problem is, I will have a hard time explaining what the amp is....but I'm REAL close to buying.

Congratulations on those awesome looking TOWERS!!!:D
The way I see it, you work hard, you make the money, and you deserve every bit of it!:)
Just tell her that I make less money than you do and yet I buy more expensive stuffs than you. And my wife is fine with it.:D
You only live ONCE!!!
LIVE IT.
ENJOY IT.
I would say, "Honey, I know you're angry I bought these speakers. It's just that I've been dreaming of these speakers for the last 15 years. I promise you that I won't buy another speaker for another 15 years. I just feel like I've been through a lot with my career. Do you feel I deserve this reward? Because if this makes you very unhappy, I will take it back.":D

Have you been able to A/B them against the 40's? My Paradigm shop has very poor listening spaces and I haven't been able to hear the Studio line properly. If I'm correct, they use many of the same components, so they should have similar characteristics, but the 100's would have fuller midrange and lower extension. Any other comments?

Well, after she got home last night, I just grabbed her, said lets go out for drinks and a nice meal before we discuss the new additions. In the end, she really wasnt mad, she said I just should have discussed it with her first. I asked her what she would have said and she said, "I would have told you no".
Today, she made a comment that the new speakers sound really nice and she thinks they look good.
My local dealer that I use for all my gear bought my 40's back from me at full MSRP which is more than I paid for them over a year ago. All in all, I was paid about 300 bucks to use his 40's for the year!
I was able to A/B the speakers and yes, the 100's are fuller in the midrange and play much lower. They really seem to fill out my big room a lot better and seem more detailed. I am still playing around with the set up but they seem pretty good with a small amount of toe-in and crossed over at 60hz. I have listened to them mostly without the sub today and they play deep and even vibrate my couch quite a bit. Movie testing will be tonight with Master and Commander on BD.

Greg, so how much did you pay out-of-pocket for the Studio 100 system?
Do they sound better in your acoustically treated room than @ the dealer or do they sound the same?
I was very unhappy with the Studio 100s at my local dealer, but then again we're talking about small-time Oklahoma here, not the Big-D.:D
You have a great system to enjoy. Like you, I have the Studio 100's too. No regrets. Hope things go well with your SO. At least you have your system to enjoy:)

They retail for around 2600, I paid less:D
No, everything sounds better at my dealers. He has four HT rooms fully set up running. Each one is the "next step" up. There is one room I really wont even go in plus I dont think they will let you unless you drive up in a 275k car, have on a Rolex and are with a $750/hour Escort:eek:Greg, so how much did you pay out-of-pocket for the Studio 100 system?

I tell you one thing. If the B&W 800D and Paradigm Studio 100 speakers sound as bad as they did to me in my local stores, and the DefTech BP7000 & 7001 sound as good as they do in my house, there is no way anybody would buy the B&W or Paradigm.
But we will see. Should be interesting.
And why sell speakers if they don't like them? Why waste your showroom space? Why keep overhead inventories? That makes no sense. It's like, "Oh, yeah, we have these $5,500 speakers over here and the $3,000 subwoofer over there, but don't listen to them and don't buy them from us because they suck."
I don't see how it would hurt to just listen to the DefTechs. I mean just for curiosity. I wonder which models do they have? Just the newer Mythos or the also the Powered Bipolars like the BP7000SC?

Man, I was just kidding, he never said that:D
I knew that. I was just going along with GlocksRock.:D
I just talked to someone at Marvin Electronics. He said the highest model they have on B&W is the 803D. He said they have the DefTech 7001SC, but not the flagship 7000SC. Bummer. I actually asked him to compare the $3,800 BP7001 vs $9,000 B&W803D, and he was being a typical salesman. He said, "Oh, you can't really compare them because they just have totally different sound to them. It's just a matter of personal preference.":D
I would have said, "Sir, the 803Ds cost $5,200 more than the 7001s, so of course, they are going to sound better." But I guess I'm not much of a salesman.:D

So how do they sound to you compared to the 60's...
The dedicated midrange should be a bit more clear.....
Any noticeable differences now that you had them... Curious how music sounds after you had your balls cut off...? :p:o

I upgraded from the 40's so the 100's are way more full in the mid range and dig a lot deeper. So how do they sound to you compared to the 60's...

Oh thats right.... sorry my bad.... haven't kept up for a while...
I was going to say, if you were upgrading from the 60's I wouldn't have said a word, and just plopped them down, on the outside you can't tell the difference... ;)
Both the 40's and the 60s are 2 1/2 way, while the 100's have the dedicated mid for a 3 way.... I can't say I notice a huge amount of difference between the Sig S4's and the Studio 100's but I haven't taken the time to do a side by side, but I can tell the 100's have a touch more presence in the mids, but on the other hand the vote of accuracy, clarity and sound staging goes to the S4's..... but not by a great margin...

I'm curious as to why you're looking at a receiver at all, since you have the MPS-1 already. I know it's easy to run a receiver as a pre/pro. I'm doing that myself, but I don't like the thought of powering all the unused amp channels in the receiver all the time for no effect.
Would an Integra or Onkyo Pro processor work for you? There's supposed to be a lot more of the new HDMI 1.3a units on the market later this year too, Marantz, Rotel, Emotiva, maybe others.

The main reason was I needed to upgrade something. The secondary reason is that I need HDMI but in no big hurry now so I will wait and see who comes out with what...I'm curious as to why you're looking at a receiver at all, since you have the MPS-1 already. According to Al Hanson 2/19/2008
http://www.videoasylum.com/ht/messages/3/30844.html
And Hansen may yet be proven right again for his next statement.
"...The reality is that there won't be strong market penetration in the US for *any* new format until the price drops below $200 for a player. (That's exactly what happened for DVD.) But that would erase the entire reason for even making Blu-Ray players. Once the players become a commodity, the Japanese cannot compete against the Chinese. Then they'll try and sell you Purple-Ray..."
