Hey guys -
First time poster looking for some sage-like advice from you more experienced audiophiles. I'll try not to be too much of a newb.
OK, I'm about 3 weeks away from moving into a new house and I need to get some ideas on some home theater speakers. My current setup is an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver and all of my speakers are in-wall Infinity EVS (?) models (very small room in my basement so I needed to go with space saving and they sounded ok). My sub is a cheap DCM 10" with like 100W of power.
Obviously I can't take my speakers with me (which is probably a good thing) so now I am looking for options for fronts, surrounds, backs and a sub. As mentioned, I am moving into a much bigger house so a few constraints on recommendations:
1. No in-wall models. No going to cut into my walls in this place. Did it in the basement because I finished it myself as running wire is easier in new construction then existing. Also, I don't know that I have ever seen anyone say a pair of in-walls was better than any floor standing speakers you can get.
2. Budget minded. I'd like to stay in the $1500-$2000 range for all the speakers.
3. Keeping the receiver. Good or bad (you guys can pass judgment on that) I got a good deal on it and it seems to meet my needs plus the wife would kick my nads in if I tried to swing another one with this one not even being a year old yet.
The specifics -
The room structure is fairly wide open. 9 foot ceilings and the kitchen, dining area and family room all run together in a big open room. Carpet on the floor in the family room where this will be housed. Room size is roughly 18 x 18, but again is wide open on one side to the dining area and kitchen.
Think that's about it. Appreciate any feedback/advice you folks could give me in regards to some speaker options. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you.
