I recently auditioned some HT4V's at the local shop and they sounded pretty good to me, however, their price tag was around $525.00 per speaker. You could get the entire Emotiva 5 channel system for the price of the LCR speakers from JBL.
Anyone heard both? What are your thoughts comparing the two?
I'm not really at a purchasing point for a new setup, but when I do I think it will be a system like the JBL HT4V's or the Emotiva.
I'm well aware of the cost savings of the Emotiva, my main interest is the sound difference / similarities between the two so please comment on that.
Thanks in advance.

There are lots of options in the $1k/pair price range. Listen to several and let your ears decide. Local dealers should have the Paradigm Studios, Klipsch reference and othe lines. ID companies like AV123, SVS, Outlaw, and Ascend also offer high end bookshelf models in your price range.
Check out the AH review of the new Emotiva speakers. They are not shipping year so you wont find much user feedback.

Good point in that the comparo is probably a little premature.
From what I know my local brands are the following:
Paradigm
Martin Logan
B&W
Polk Audio
JBL
KEF
Tannoy
RBH
Klipsch
I'm not sure about the Martin Logans but all those brands carry speakers in my targeted price range. Some serious auditioning will have to take place when I'm ready to pull the trigger.

EMP (or RBH Sound) is just blowing these things out right now!
