Hello there! I just purchased a pair of Klipsch floorstanding RF-62 speakers, 500 watts peak.

I have a 15-year old receiver, Sony's STR AV770, 80 watts per channel (front), that seems to work fine w/ the new speakers. But I've read that when a receiver's "overworked," damage to the speaker (specifically, to the tweeters) can result. Is it recommended that I go w/ a new (ostensibly more powerful) receiver, to avoid damaging the speakers? Or am I, in all respects, safe?

Much Appreciated!

unless your looking for new audio codecs or hdmi and video features or a massive room to fill, klipsch are extremely efficient speakers and do not require alot of power to play loud.

Most overload on an old receiver is on the receiver, not the speakers.

If the speakers have low efficinecy or a low impendance rating ( 4 ohms ) it can cause a hiher load on the AVR ( Audio Video receiver).

Your speakers are very efficient at sensitivity 97 dB and are rated at 8 ohms. You should have no problems! ENJOY
