I have been contemplating where the next big advancement will be in terms of low frequency production. We have woofers with over 1.5" one-way linear excursion, with extremely low distortion. With the general design of the dynamic loudspeaker at over 80 yrs. old, what will be the next big innovation in terms of bass reproduction? The biggest quandary I see, is that since bass is so reliant on the movement of air, we will not see much of a change... unfortunately.

Any thoughts here?

What about finding a way to reproduce those lower-than-10hz frequencies so we can not just hear but feel when a helicopter lands. I'm talking about a decent solution here. Without having to buy a humongous sub and amp.

Subsonic improvements are something id like to see. Unless a new theroy involving mass v air, is thought of you may have hit it on the head. Maybe less distorting materals more foward thinking along with freq management.

How much money you gots...?
The only solution I have seen is to get something like a Rotary Woofer, seen here.... http://www.rotarywoofer.com/

Rotary Woofer Pricing:
TRW-17 transducer $12,900.00
Motor Controller $350.00
Amplifier and crossover $700.00
Design and installation, typical $8,000-$12,000*
Total $21,950-$25,950

Specifications: Amplifier Requirement: 200 watts @ 8 ohms Impedance: 8 ohms 0Hz - 40Hz Frequency Response: 1Hz – 30Hz +/- 4dB Suggested Crossover: 20Hz @ 18dB/octave Sensitivity 94dB 1 watt 1 meter @10Hz Maximum Acoustic Output: >115dB between 1 and 20Hz. Distortion: Typically 3% or less between 1 and 30Hz @90dB Warranty – 3 years parts and labor Patent Pending
