It a strange twist in events, Sony has announced that it will begin supporting HD-DVD along with blu-ray. Toshiba to resume manufacturing of HD-DVD and Blu-ray as per agreement with sony. Expect players end of 3rd quarted this year. Sony states PS3 to support HD-DVD via firmware update, only to be released on a update disc and not ethernet.

This wouldn't be an April Fool's joke would it? Nah can't be.
Awesome news!!! So when does the firmware update that will enable the PS 3 to play HD-DVD's come out?!?!? :p

Actually the new PS3 coming out next week plays both BD and HD DVD, no update needed.
Oh, and it has a one terabyte hard disk drive.

In the same article it was also stated that the ps3 would also decode DVD-A, play mini discs, and allow users to view beta movies. Boy am I stoked!

No 8-track, but laser disc will be allowed with an add-on unit :)
