Im a little confused on what im needing to do for a Blue Ray disc player. I want to get the PS3 but im not sure if it will get me the sound i need for my current amp. I have an older Yahama amp HTR-5460 http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=200178&CTID=5000400 Will i be able to get Digital 5.1 DTS from a Sony PS3 and if so, how would i attach it to the amp to get this sound? All i have used in the past is the coaxial bitstream input for DTS 5.1.
Thanks,
Tommy

You can connect the ps3 to your reciever via a toslink cable, aka digital optical. That will let you get up to 5.1 channels of DD and DTS.

So if im thinking right, the digital optical from the PS3 to my amp, and the HDMI from the PS3 to the LCD tv? I wasnt sure if the PS3 would output a signal from the optical and HDMI at the same time.
It seems this would be much easier if i had a newer amp with a few hdmi inputs.
I ran all of my wiring for a 5.1 surround sound configuration. It wouldnt be much trouble to expand it to 6.1 or 7.1 with my home still under construction.
Thanks,
Tommy

yes you are right, hdmi for video toslink for audio.
Basically, in the settings, you choose your video connection and audio connection. Just make sure to choose the optical cable in the audio options.
let me know if you need the steps, I have a ps3 as well
