Well i bought a SACD disc and i just assumed that my Samsung BD-p1400 blu-ray player would play it, but guess what it doesent and i was wondering if thir is a good SACD player that is not a dvd upconverter to, my Samsung does do that and i dont really need 2 dvd plars sitting next to each other, i was thinking of the Pioneer Elite if i have to get an upconverter just so it matches my reciver.

I don't know of any SACD player that is not also a DVD player. Oppo, Harman Kardon, and, of course, Sony sell them.

Yes there are SACD only players, many are expensive though. I believe Sony still offers a stand alone one, but it will only play CD and SACD, no DVD-A. Besides the PS3, none of Sony's BD players play SACD.

Marantz makes a SACD/CD only player (http://us.marantz.com/Products/1644.asp).

You could get an Oppo 980H.
It's a great SACD player, also plays DVD-Audio discs and has better upconversion for DVD's than the BD-P1400.

Plus, it's only $169.

By all means, get a Pioneer Elite universal player. I got the first one they ever put out & it plays everything! Which is precisely why I got it. I refused to get into a stupid format war.

That would be the same Pioneer who settled the class action lawsuit over poor player quality...I'll pass.

I didn't want to bring up the Oppo, however for the money, I would have to second that recommendation.

I've had a Pioneer Elite DV-45A for a couple years now and it plays DVDs, DVD-A and SACD (as well as CDs of course) with decent components inside for the audio and it was a good deal at around $240 at the time. I'm sure there are similar things new or used that you could find.

I got an Onkyo DV-SP502 from geeks.com for $89 plus 10% off with the UGOTTADEAL promo code, don't know if they have any left. No HDMI, just analog outputs for SACD/DVD-A (and digital for CD and DVD per usual) but for the money it's a nice unit. It's based on the Pioneer DV-588A IIRC, but with an all-metal chassis and aluminum faceplate. I'm enjoying it so far. I'm just using it in a 2-channel rig at present, multichannel electronics have to wait for now...

I couldn't say no for what worked out to $94 shipped...it was a $299 unit originally and the replacement with HDMI sells for $399...and it's a handsome deck to boot. :)
