Hi,

Has anyone had the chance to listen to both Polk Audio's LSi9 and Jamo's C 803. I saw a pretty good review of the Jamo and someone else compared LSi9 to B&W's 705.

I just can't decide which one of these to buy!

have you listened to either speaker? Comparing polks sound with b&w imo and to my ears are two noticeably different speakers. The Jamo is gonna want power as it has a 87db sens, and the polk 88db.

No, not yet. The store will play the B&W's for me but they don't have the Polks. I understand the Polks handle bass better, right?

by better bass in what way? Polk is known for publishing low freq responces, but you should listen and judge for yourself. I love my B&Ws, but some dont. In the same price range id take bw over polk. Jamo has been up and down but have a history of good speakers, especially in europe. I believe they are a part of klipsch now. If your looking for bass from a bookshelf, i found getting below 40hz accurately isnt widley avialable. speakers tend to sound muddy. Is this for 2ch music?

Only you will be able to know which speaker suits your ears the best. I agree with Bandphan that comparing B & W with Polk is apples to oranges. 2 totally different sounds.

I prefer the Polks to B & W. The LSI's will respond better with the more power you feed them as well. For a bookshelf the LSI's have quite an impressive bass.

I have the LSi 9's. I've not compared them to the Jamo's - have never listened to them actually. What I will say about the Polks are they are IMPRESSIVE in lower-mids and BASS. They're a very solid speaker. It's hard to for me to say whether they outperform another brand, because they have a very distinctive quality of their own. Give them a listen. I'm sure you will be impressed.
If you are into to low-level music . . . . I'd lean away from the LSi 9's. Phenomenal at mid to higher volumes. Nothing special at lower. From what I've 'READ' about Jamo - they would probably perform better at lower volumes.
As always LISTEN TO THEM yourself and go with what your ears tell you :)

Enjoy the music!

Kirklin what are you powering them with? As I said earlier, if you feed the LSI's some serious power they will rock out at ANY volume.

Since both the Polks & Jamo's are 4ohms, both will respond well to more power.

I've got an audition with Jamo scheduled Monday. Possibly also Polks. But today I listened to B&W 705s, Paradigm Studio 20s and Studio 40s side-by-side and thought I'd add my two cents.

No offence to any B&W fans, but they sounded rather "subdued" at both ends the highs and the bass. The difference between the 705s and Sutdio 20s was significant--the Studios are pretty lively speakers. The difference between the Studio 20s and 40s wasn't much but the 40s extras woofer does help deliver a better "rounded" sound.

thats why hearing is subjective
the studios20s ±2 dB from 54 Hz - 22 kHz
the 705s ±3 dB from 46Hz – 25kHz

spec wise the 600 would closer to the studio series.

can your demo some focals?
See the fun is in the hunt :D
