Blowing out speakers question

How common is blowing out speakers? Just curious mine are working fine but wondering how common speaker blowouts are.

What risk would I put myself at if im using the following:

2 Polk R50's (Fronts) 150watt peak.
1 Polk CSR (Center)
2 JBL Surrounds

Insignia 6.1 600watt receiver. It goes up to 90 db.

If I turn up all my gains and crank it up to 50 db the volume gets ear piercing, which is what I top it out at just cause its so loud.

Is there any risk operating it at that high if I do it every now and then?

Your probably using about 10watts of power from your amp to get the volume that loud. :eek:

If the speakers still sound good at high levels of output, then I wouldn't worry too much.:D

If the speakers cones aren't reaching their maximum excursion, you'll be fine. Normally underpowering tends to damage speakers moreso than overpowering. People want more volume and keep cranking the amp up until it clips, which causes death to speakers. But you don't sound like you are doing either. Like they said, if it sounds good you're probably alright.

How high do you guys crank yalls stuff up? I assume the more important difference in our systems would be the clarity and crispness of highs and lows? If not then what is a major difference between our systems?

Clarity, Detail, Accuracy, Transparency, Imaging, Sound field, Build Quality, Finish Quality, Number of Drivers, Crossovers, Enclosure, Design, Placement all contribute to the differences.

Also keep in mind that two identical component systems, will sound different in different rooms. Acoustics, and placement have a lot to do with sound quality.
