MAN I MISS THIS SITE!
my work cracked down on internet use and I have had no home access.
I need to help a friend. I need a pair of towers, for the 400-600 price point.
We will be looking at receivers also, but that comes after the budget for speakers!
She loves very clear music and listens to a great deal of vocal music, Jazz, and classical. Not too much hard rock and nearly no rap. The output doesn't have to be a lot and I would like to have it either with built in subs or find a pair of towers and sub for that price point. It will do movies also so I want some bass for her.
She is just getting into high def and HTish things, and loathes the speakers on her TV.
She came within moments of getting a bose system and I nearly lost it.
Can someone direct me to a good place for value/ID/online retailers and brands?
Thanks for any help given guys!

HOLY CRAP
those RC 30's are crazy low price.
I have the 50's too bad the price on the 70's isn't less.... ah well.
I like most of those. I am also curious, I think I may want to go with the port on the front, I'm going to measure her room, but where they will be placed it may be close to a wall behind them, I know my 50's like allot of space behind them. They push a ton of air when playing louder.
You guys all rock. this is the best forum and proved so over and over and over.

I think that price is per speaker;). Still a good price though, they retail for 1400/pair up here.

I need a pair of towers, for the 400-600 price point.
I just bought a pair of Definitive Technology BP10B for $700 (retail $1K), which is $100 over your budget, but I think they are well worth it.

Don't know them like I know Saturday, so you might be right, but in this case they have a clearance going on, and are offering good deals.

for me or you.. yes. For her. I think it's stretching. I am actualy trying to get her to think bookshelf plus sub. I think towers close to walls always end up sounding worse than lower cost bookshelf.
Maybe it's just due to the rear ports. I can't stand front fire ports. Ever tower I heard I could hear chuff chuff chuff in movies. I was being uber selective tho.
Thank you all so much for the help.

The PSB T45s don't chuff. I know. I own a pair and run them full range with music, no sub. They do a fantastic job on all sorts of music except for maybe rap and organ music such as Bach's fugue or Tocataa. The bass doesn't go low enough for those two styles. If you can, I'd suggest you audition a pair. It would be time well spent. :)

I also own T45's, and never in the time I've had them I have heard them go "chuff, chuff"...Actually, I have never heard anyone in this forum complaining about the T45's going "chuff".
