Got a chance to listen to some B&W 684s the other day. I like the way they sounded. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some other options. I listened to the 683s as well, but the 4s sounded a little fuller. I have listened to some Axiom M60s (at someone else's house) and liked them, but it was a while ago. Also considering maybe Rocket 850s or some Swans (not sure of model numbers though).

Monitor Audio RS6 or RS8.

Dali

Paradigm

PSB T65

Salk Song Towers

Don't know Dali or Paradigm by heart, but they have excellent speaker series in that price range.

Hi,
I auditioned the Monitor Audio RS8's and really liked them, more than the B&W 600 (I forget which one exactly).
Of course then I listened to the MA gold series and fell in love with them:D, but those are outside of your budget. I would say that the RS8's are worth an audition. Good luck in your search and have fun.

All of those speakers should be excellent!!! Of course, I haven't heard the SVS-MTS-01's, but if I know SVS, those speakers are going to Rock! :D

Those all look like some good options. I plan on an initial setup with a Pioneer 92TXH and then moving to an amp when funds permit.

If you can, try and audition Totem Acoustic products as well.

I also recomend Salk SongTowers. They are sold internet direct only so listening to them can be difficult. I live in Maryland just outside Washington, DC. If you can, come listen to mine. I've had them since September.

Although they are an MTM design, rated at a nominal 4 ohms, they were an easy load for my AV receiver. Pay attention to the impedance ratings of some of those other speakers, because some of them may be difficult for an medium powered AV receiver.

My recommendation:
Onkyo 875 receiver & Def Tech BP10B speakers.

684 is a nice speaker, and most people agree that better sounding than the 683. If you are considering an ID don't pass up on Salk Song Towers.

I like a lot of the ID companies and would like to listen, but you basically have to eat shipping if you don't like them. I am in Orange County, CA. I think I am going to check out the Swans, since there is a dealer about 40 minutes away. Too many options. I plan on getting an amplifier down the road, but need something that can be driven just off the receiver for now.

Aperion pays shipping both ways (www.aperionaudio.com), and Salk has many enthusiasts as customers, if you call them they can help you as to where you can audition.

I've heard great things about every line listed in this thread. Just one more to throw on the fire is the Monitor Audio Gold Reference 20 tower, at 50% off at Saturday Audio in gloss silver for $1,500. Oak/Black/Mahogany are $1,800.

good luck.

Can't get better than those for that price. Check with SA, as I believe they are out of them, but they will work with you and give you a good price in just arrived merchandise. I bought my PSB set from them, then another pair of PSB, and a NAD amp. Great service, great price...BTW, PSB Image T55 at $629.00/pr. with them. You can get more in your budget, but for those of you with a lower budget, they are a great buy.
