Article here (http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Marantz/CES_2008/CES:_Marantz_BD8002_Blu-ray_Player_Due_This_Spring/1347). Based on the appearance and specs, it sounds like it is a Denon; no surprise there.

You gonna pick one up to match the new Marantz receiver you're waiting on?

Probably not :) The 8002 is out now, but price is a bit steep... I am leaning more towards a mid level BD player that has 7.1 out as my receiver has 7.1 in and that should get me by for the new formats for now, since I am very happy with my receiver.

I suspect that now the water is warm (and blu), dozens of spectator manufacturers who've been sitting on the sidelines will be jumping in for a swim.

What do you have to say on behalf of the 33.1 pound SR-8002?

All I have to say is my 8300 is 42lbs :D I haven't even seen a store that has an 8002 for me to listen to yet. There are two places around here that carries the higher end models and I haven't had a chance to get out to listen to this guy.

With your speakers, I can't see it making a dramatic difference between a 30 pound AVR with a 50 pound AVR. My 10 pound Teac seems to power the Boston HD10s I have to oblivion, who needs huge gear anyway?:)

(sorry in advance to all posters for making a big fuss about the Teac/Boston combo, I can hardly contain my glee.:D)

Since I have the mains on monoblocks, it likely won't make much difference at all. It is the HDMI and decoding I would be after, but if I just get a player that can decode the formats and send them via analog, I don't have to spend 3x as much on a receiver just to add a few features.

We are truly doomed if we upgrade to new electronics every year.:D
