All right, lame-*** pre-season is finally over!! Let the trash-talking begin!!!

I can't wait to see my Chargers whoop up on the Bears this weekend! I think it will be a close game, but I honestly don't think Chicago can match up with us on both sides of the ball. Their defense will give us some problems, but the Chargers just have too many weapons, (LT, Gates, VJ, etc.), to stop them all. Grossman will probably be his unpredictable self, plus having the 2 Shawn's in his face all day long will blow his confidence.

I think the deciding factor is going to be special teams. Our kick coverage tends to completely blow, and if we let Devin Hester run all over the place, it could end up being a very long day.

I think this might finally be the Chargers year, (although I was sure last year was our year. Damn you Marty!!!). I can't wait to see if my boys can finally win the big game.

Who is your favorite team and what are your predictions for the season?

Well being from Packer country, I am waiting to see if Favre has another season left like the ones from his MVP years. I am hoping he can break Marino's touchdown record in the first three games. That way they can concentrate on winning some games. They were starting to look decent toward the end of last season. The running game is looking like the question mark right now. They need to have a ground game to take the heat off of Favre.

It is crazy, my sister-in-laws (17 year old twins) have never known another quaterback in Green Bay. Favre has played every game they can remember. Kind of amazing when you think of it.

My hopes are for them just to make the playoffs.

Brett needs just:

7 touchdowns to be #1;
2 wins (as starting qb) to be #1;
136 passing attempts to be #1;
about 4000 passing yards to be #1; and
4 starts to be #2 (consecutive starts).

He's in some real standout company. Then he is #1 in all the important records (except consecutive starts). Yes, Montana was great to watch. Also, although Brett is a southern boy with property down there, I doubt if you'd ever find him pitting some 40 dogs against one another (and financing it), let alone defending/mitigating that stupid act. He's never lost his ideals, morality or roots, unlike some current pros out there (including past coaches).

I REALLY hope this post was a joke...Marty is long gone from SD. You may have to turn in your man-card for that oversight Buck...;)

I am a Packer-backer all the way babee!! Our Offense will be worse this year, but our D could border on dominating, so our record could be better, but the games will probably be less exciting.

If our O-line isn't dominant most of the time, it could be a long season for Brett...not having a reliable RB behind him is really bad, imo. I'm more worried about proper blitz pick-up than I am about actually running the ball.

The consecutive games streak could be in jeopardy.

Oh well. I love NFL football. Go Pack!!

Amen!

The Badgers looked a bit shaky this week, but UNLV always plays them tough. Badgers WILL win the Big 10. What is going to hurt them though is if Michigan continues to lose and OSU loses before they play (the Badgers) It will not do much for Wisconsin's hopes of getting into a Major BCS game, if not the title game. Everyone knows that the pollsters do not like Wisconsin. They don't care much for the BIG-10 either with the two obvious exceptions (Michigan and Ohio State).

The Packers offense looked really bad this week. We need our line to buck up and block not only for the running game but to keep defenders off of Favre. His consective start streak will end soon if we do not get better protection. If it were not for special teams, the Pack loses this one. The Defense did do pretty well though for the most part.

Well, my Chargers won. But it wasn't the butt-whoopin' I was hoping for. It was an interesting week one for sure.

I hope Everett of the Bills is able to recover from that spinal injury he suffered. What a bummer. But that is exactly why I feel that football is the only professional sport where the ridiculous amounts the players make is even remotely justified. You just never know. Any one play can end your career and totally change your life. He'll be lucky if he ever walks again.

Yes, but special teams and offense looked sweet! Favre was...well Favre. No one else can do it like him. Without a serious running game (who also sometimes serves as a good blocker as well as general distraction and annoyance), we do need to step up with rec and te positions. Driver's great. But we cannot expect to win many games w/o offensive points (not just special teams). Go Pack!

Yeah as good as the two muffed Eagle "returns" were on replay, I liked the last one were the "returner" scooped up the ball amidst a swarm of Packers just two yards before it was to stop rolling. He didn't drop it, but I'll bet his ears are still ringing from that pounding. Where did they find these guys?

Who........ the Bobcats?

:D

While it's true the Buckeyes won ugly.........their defense pitched a shutout in the process while rotating the entire roster onto the field for pretty much the entire game. Everybody 3 deep on the roster got a good workout for the Bucks on Saturday.

We play the Washington Huskies (who are looking very strong in 07) next weekend, so we'll know a lot more about the strength of the team very soon.

LOL..... Too funny!! That Bengals/Ravens game was very fun to watch. As a Browns fan, the Ravens is the team I probably most enjoy rooting against, and seeing them lose an exciting game......is priceless. The Bengals were bad for a looooong time, so I'm glad to see them finally playing good football.

The SF/Ari game was kinda lame, IMO. It was like trying to determine the outcome of which team sucked the least. With that said, watching the Cards throw away the game in the final seconds was pretty exciting.

Who's 2nd half game are you referring to? If it's the Chargers, I believe they scored more 2nd half points than any other team last season. Who can forget that 2nd half comeback against the Bengals, coming back from 28 points down to win the game?!?!? Incredible.

But after the 2 games they've played so far, I don't know if my boys are the same team. They just don't seem to have that same fire as last season. True, we had some key injuries on defense last week, but something just doesn't seem right. I think Jamal Williams is THE most important guy on our defense. When he goes out of the game, the defense just isn't as effective. Scary that one man can have such an impact.

The Pack's...of course.

The Chargers had a 14-2 record last year with 10 pro-bowlers.

Well...Favre got 3 td's to tie Marino...one more and he's the alltime leader. And the D, whist not keeping them to under 20 pts., kept them to 24.

Well the game was good. They did come close to losing it all though. I was so disappointed when they could not put it in the end zone with 4 plays within 6 yards of the goal line. They are lucky that they got the turnover on Defense as well.

I am quite happy that they are 3-0. I am remaining a bit sceptical at this point though as they have not shown me they are dominant yet. The running game needs to improve. Favre can't do it all ALL season. He played like he was back in '96-'97. If the running game comes into it's own, Favre keeps up his play, and the defense keeps it up, I will feel much safer about their situation.

All in all a very good game though. I hope it continues!!

That's debatable (even though it's been decided). It looks like it was punched through at least once down there.

I Favre can't do it all ALL season. He played like he was back in '96-'97.

Why not? He's healthy, and making it work with the tools he's got. He is playing like he was ten years ago. The line just has to keep protecting him...he'll stay healthy then.

All in all a very good game though. I hope it continues!!

I thought the Pack looked like the real deal today.
It's hard, this time anyway, to chalk it up to a poor opponent. The Chargers played a good game.
I started putting on my lawn mowing shoes when they held the Packers to nothing after 1st and ten at the 1 foot mark in the fourth quarter.
I can't believe my boys found a way to lose another one. When they were up 24-21, if Weddle hadn't tripped and gotten that sure interception, the game would have been over. Oh well. Bottom line is the great teams find a way to win and we didn't. But now I'm leaning more towards blaming Ted Cotrell and not Norv Turner. There's just NO way we should have given up almost 400 yards!!!! How old is Favre now, 50?!?!?

Whatever. We lost. I'll find a way to get over it.

GO PACK!Not really, considering Jamal Williams didn't play. That's HUGE loss to our defense! Matt Wilhelm, our starting middle linebacker was also out. But I'm not gonna make excuses. A loss is a loss. But our next 3 games are all divisional opponents, 2 at home, so I fully expect us to be 4-2 going into our bye, firmly atop the AFC West.

Childress threw the red flag how many times?
And Holcomb, what a baby. He reminds me of that other Viking that wore diapers, Chris Carter. :p
And Fox sports sucks the wad...at least in this game. They failed to show the time (or had the wrong time) and down on several occasions, couldn't see the yellow line half the time, and some key replays were entirely omitted.

Good? I think he looks great, as he did ten years ago. Nine, count 'em, yes, NINE different receivers. No running game. He's using the tools (almost all rookies) that he's got. Let's not forget we dropped three potential interceptions...those were gimmes that have to be caught against a real competitor. I'm sure we'll talk about it and get it fixed. The Saints finally woke up last night.

Brees put up a 109 QB rating and Bush gained over 90 yards in the first half. I think he finished with over 140 yards of offense. Seattle got a garbage TD to bring them within 11, but the Saints owned the game. 28-17.

Thank God. Assuming they're able to keep it up - and they should - the Saints could easily find themselves in the running for the division at the end of the season.

Packers win again! Thanks to our defense. The defense played really well yesterday and came up with some crucial take aways... and a score. FAvre set the interception record  yay hoo  He was robbed of a td pass to Bubba Franks though in the 4th quarter. Franks got a foot down and was pushed out by a face guarding db. In any case Favre slipped from his average of 300+ yds passing a game  :D

How about Tom Brady. Holy smokes! The guy is on fire! 21 td's and just 2 picks and we are only 6 games into the season. If he keeps this up he'll pass for over 50 td's! The Patriots look REALLY tough.

I went to NFL.com after my post. I was shocked  6 more good god. The Dolphins record of 16-0 looks a bit threatened right now. This team looks much stronger than the Colts did in their super 15-1 season. They still have some good matchups to come with Indy next week and Pittsburg and the Giants later in the season. If they win those three the other games should go pretty well for them. After the way they destroyed Dallas they are going to be VERY hard to beat.

jonnythan

What I like about Belichek is the killer instinct. A 14 point margin was too close so he sent Brady back in. They are too many coaches that go into conservative mode. Telling your guys not to play 100% through the whole game is counterintuitive. This can be done with play calling too. Don't get me wrong, if you are up by 21 with 1:00 left you take the knee twice though.

gmichael
10-22-2007, 02:25 PM
I think we may be a little ahead of ourselves. But if the Pats do make it to 14-0, they should play their starters for the first qtr or half to keep them sharp. Then let them rest up. Also, sit anyone who is borderline (questionable).

Well they FINALLY announced that Sunday's game will indeed be in SD. I don't know what took them so long to decide. Some people are *****ing that they shouldn't move the remaining refugees out of Qualcomm. Gimme a break. There's only about 50 people left. Plus they're being moved to the Del Mar fairgrounds, which is a better place anyway. At least there they can be indoors. I swear, some people have nothing better to do than *****.

Ship 'em off to the fairgrounds (to their next temporary home) I say...and let the games begin! :rolleyes:Yet another person that doesn't understand the situation opening their mouth. Let me explain it to you. There were only about 50 people left as of Friday. Where were these people staying? The parking lot of the stadium. OUTDOORS!!! Where were they moved to? The Del Mar County Fairgrounds, that has many exhibition halls that the people could easily be moved to. INDOORS!!! Where would you rather stay when the air is filled with smoke and ash, outdoors or indoors???? Sounds like indoors would be better to me. But I'm kinda weird that way.

And the people that didn't have transportation, were bussed there by the city. Bottom line is that the fairgrounds are a better place for them to stay anyway.

Plus, as I said, thousands of people voiced their opinion, that they wanted the game to go on. People wanted the entertainment to give them something positive to think about. Even if only for a few hours.

Don't go shooting your mouth off if you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, you're right again. One has to be in San Diego to hear oodles about this whole predicament.

My message was to you that you apparently value a game over people. Lose your home, and everything in it, (like the 2,000+ in So. Cal.) then come back to me "shooting your mouth off," and maybe I'll listen. ;) Until then, I think it more important to consider people that have lost their homes and everything in them. How do you figure that a FEW people's feelings weren't considered?!?! That's why it took until Friday for the decision to be made, when the danger was pretty much over by Wednesday. What's better for the general populace of San Diego? Coming together as a community and getting to see their team play and win a football game, or keeping a FEW people sitting in a parking lot, doing NOTHING to improve their situation?!?!

AGAIN, they were moved to a place where they could be housed indoors instead of outdoors. How is that not better for them?!?!?

Bottom line is that the decision that was made was better for EVERYBODY. The people that were displaced were moved to a better place, and the THOUSANDS of San Diegans that wanted to watch a football game were allowed to. To quote the immortal Mr. Spock, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

You're just another one of those people that will find something to complain about, no matter what the situation is. Go have another brat covered in Cheez Whiz.

To be frank I don't care, I feel sorry for some of the players like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas, these guys in better teams could have achieved more, they go out week after week and pour their soul into a losing proposition, they're super bowl material. they do have large shoes to fill because of that 72 team, going O-fer is never easy. They should be comended though for battling each week and don't forget they have lost 6 games by fewer then 3pts. All kidding aside, you can't compete without a capable QB or running game and as you already observed in an eariler remark they are mismanaged and have been for years.

As fo go GIANTS, do you Giants fans think you have more to cheer for, I think not! Not with ELY at the helm.

Cowboys vs. Packers two more days to go. I hope Woodson can play. He leaves a serious void if he is out. Harris should do alright against T.O. but Crayton could smoke us if Woodson is out. Witten scares me too as the Pack has not been that great at matching up with high quality receiving tight ends this season. I just hope that Romo gets all giddy becasue he is playing his hero and our D-line gives him no time to throw.

On the other side We need at least 125 yds. on the ground by one back or committee. This will give Favre the ability to open things up. Because we have a bunch of good solid receivers it is difficult for opposing defenses to match up. Favre needs a good clean game with little to no turnovers and at least 2 td passes. Special teams and defense need a score or a few big plays to help out too.

In the end these two teams match up really well. It will be a great game. I hope the Pack pulls it out 37-31 and Favre gets a win in Dallas.

I'd like to say I confident in the Packer's chances, but with the defensive secondary banged up, especially if Woodson is out, it could be a long game.
Regardless I took Friday off to recover, hopefully recover from celebrating.

Well, Packer loss set aside, I was not particularly impressed by my first viewing of the NFL network. The picture and sound were good, except for a dozen or so times that the signal blacked out for a second. I guess I could probably blame that on a glitch between the NFL feed and my local TV station.
My gripe is with the networks choice of announcers. In particular, Bryant Gumbel. Not only does he not have the voice for I would expect for football, on numerous occasions he got the score, field position, coaches, and team names confused.

Terrible.

Favre looks set to add another 4,000 yd. 30 td season to his impressive resume. He is 95 yds shy of 4,000 and 4 tds short of 30. With the Bears and Lions yet to go I feel this should happen. I am just hoping for another miracle loss by Dallas. Having home field advantage thoughout the playoffs in Jan., in Wisconsin, would be a major help to the Packers.

Greg Jennings needs 112 yds. for a 1000 yd season. That would be two receivers with 1,000 yds. plus for the Pack. Jennings is quietly having an excellent season. He has 12 tds. this season so far!

Tomlinson had a very nice day yesterday. How about the Browns now at 9-5! Who saw that coming?

By the way the NFC Championship game is AT LAMBEAU!

After the way the 'Pack came back from a 14 point deficit I feel they will beat the Giants in the near single digit temps expected next week. I also feel that they are capable of beating the Pats in the big game. Sorry Darien, I just don't feel the Chargers have what it takes to get to the Superbowl. If the 'Pack can get to and win in the big game, Favre deserves the MVP.

Sorry, but I don't think the Packers are near as good as the Chargers. True, you guys won back in week 3, but that was a TOTALLY different Chargers team. The players and coaches were still getting used to each other and the new systems. Now the Bolts are finally clicking on all cylinders. I mean, geez our backup QB and RB marched down the field and put a TD on the board against the #5 defense!!

I don't doubt that Sunday is going to be a tough day, but if our offense plays well, and our defense does what it's done all season long, create turn-overs, the Chargers can definitely win. It will be a good game.

Ladainian Tomlinson is just a good football player.Changed the game my ***. It cracks me up when people say that. Please, you're seriously telling me that linebackers play the game differently now than they did before him?!? Back that up with some facts. Otherwise you're just parroting other people.

Tomlinson is the best RB to ever play the game.

Lawrence Julius Taylor (born February 4, 1959), nicknamed L.T., is a retired Hall of Fame American football player. Taylor played his entire professional career as a linebacker for the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL). He is often considered to be one of the greatest defensive players in the history of football, and has been called the greatest defensive player of all time by media members, former players, and coaches.

After an All-American career at the University of North Carolina (UNC), Taylor was drafted by the Giants with the second overall selection in the 1981 NFL Draft. Although controversy surrounded the selection due to Taylor's contract demands, the two sides quickly resolved their issues and Taylor won several defensive awards after his rookie season. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Taylor was a disruptive force at outside linebacker, and is widely considered to have changed the pass rushing schemes, offensive line play, and offensive formations used in the NFL. Taylor produced double-digit sacks seasons consecutively from 1984 through 1990, including a career high of 20.5 in 1986. He also won a record three Defensive Player of the Year awards and was named the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his performance in the 1986 season. He was named first-team All-Pro in each of his first nine seasons and was a key member of the Giants' defense, nicknamed "The Big Blue Wrecking Crew", that led New York to Super Bowl XXI and XXV victories. During the 1980s Taylor and fellow linebackers Carl Banks and Hall of Famer Harry Carson gave the Giants linebacking corps a reputation as one of the best in the NFL

On numerous occasions Coaches including the late Bill Walsh were quoted attesting to the way LT changed Pro-Football some 27 years ago.

For the first point, read Michael Lewis' book "The Blind Side". It will tell you in detail how LT changed the LB position. They had to start using guards to block him in addition to RBs and FBs.

As for Tomlinson being the best RB to ever play- do you know much about football? The top 5 list easily goes:

Barry Sanders
Walter Payton
Jim Brown
Emmitt Smith
Erick Dickerson

With apologies to Earl Campbell and Gayle SAyers.

Get back to me in 8-10 more years on Tomlinson.

I'll tell you something though, the way both teams played, neither would stand a chance against the Pats, GB missed so many opportunities to win, and NY, well let's just say they have had better games. I'll go on a limb here, unless NY becomes a radically different team, they won't beat the Pats.

Giants fans are not allowed to smack talk until the morning of February 4th. Until then we will keep our mouths shut.

Pretty sure that we had no chance against the Pats the first time, the Bucs, the Cowboys, and now the Packers.... pretty sure we won all of them.

The Pats looked a bit shaky themselves today....

I have no doubt that the Pats are the favorites, but I have a feeling it will be a great game.

No doubt Abe, it will be a great game, but if the Giants play like today it won't be pretty for them, NE is an unforgiving team right now and you can't make so many mistakes and expect not to pay for them, btw I'm not a Pats fan, I'm writing simply as a detached viewer with no axe to grind.:) I've been so sickened by the Fish that I'm not even a fan of theirs. This season was the culmination of years of neglect and bad choices for the Dolphins.

Hey John, sorry for the loss:(. The Dolphins haven't been contenders for many seasons. This season though was the breaking point, it all came to a head, years of bad scouting, management and coaching finally bubbled through the cracks.:)

Hopefully for the fish Parcells can work his magic one more time. At the very least you can be assured that Ted Ginn won't be your 1st round draft pick, and that all of the soft players who don't try hard will not be on that team by the end of training camp.

Yeah strat, thanks. For the youngest team and the oldest quarterback (that is hopefully back next year) I give them a good chance for improvement.

As for the fish...the flip side is you get the pick of the picks...and a new coach. There's always a bright side, right?

As for major, (I think the quip was directed at me), isn't it traitorous to cheer for a northern team when you live so deep in the south? :p
