Phono cartridges in 2007

I'm putting a nice 2 channel system for a neighbor who has a fabulous old jazz collection mostly on vinyl. I plan on perhaps the Salk Song Tower speakers and a Van Alstine integrated amp or Outlaw receiver. I plan to get a Thorens turntable in the $300 range. Can anyone recommend a cartridge for said TT? There is obviously a nice budget but I'm certainly not going crazy on this item.

Dan check out the Ortofon X5 MC, they're hard to beat at anywhere near the price.

A few you can look into are Dynavector, Grado and, of course, the Sure V series. I have a Thorens table that I use a Signet cartridge in, but they are no longer made. I will most likely go with one of the above when the stylus wears out.
