Thanks for the links, zumbo. Just my opinion, but they look pretty bland.

Haven't these been out for a while?

I was looking at these yesterday on the web-site. I need to get to my local B&W dealer for a listen. The bookshelf 686 retails for $450 a pair. The 683 towers are $1400 a pair.

Yes, I think they have been out for a little while. Not sure if I like the odd tweeter plate being offset to one side. I guess the sound is what matters...

Just got my email today. They are new to me. My dealer doesn't have them on the floor yet.:(

Yeah, they've been announced for a while, but slow to arrive. My dealer just got his in about 3 weeks ago. I haven't listened to them, but I did get to see them in person. The first thing that jumped out at me was how much deeper the cabinet was (bookshelves) than the s3's.

I really like the look of that cabinet. The yellow kevlar driver suits it very well. Don't these have the same tweeter as the old 800 nautilus line that is still on the 805S, 804S, and 803S? They're made of aluminum I think.

I like Kevlar drivers.

I like the 460cc drivers with a stiff shaft. I use Cleveland drivers exclusively even though the rest of my clubs are Callaway’s.
Oh and nice B&Ws if you like that sort of thing.
I auditioned the 686 bookshelf speakers for 450/pair they are by far the best sounding bookshelf I have ever heard. The sound was enveloping and the instruments were genuine. I heard a track by Roger Waters with an intense thunderstorm and some guy talking very softly in a foreign language and it sounded like he was whispering in my ear. They were being powered by a McIntosh Amp though.

I agree, I heard the 686 bookshelves not too long ago and was extremely impressed. For the size they put out a great amount of tight bass and handled the full spectrum very well. Very lifelike speakers especially combined with the treated showroom I was in.
