$99 HD DVD player from Toshiba?

If this is true that is certainly another sign that this format war is absolutely awesome for consumers :). Its nice to see companies doing whatever it takes to get their market share.

I don't think so. Walmart has first run standard DVDs for $20 or more. A couple of extra bucks won't cause "freaking". This evening, the HD-DVD of Flags of Our Fathers was only $3 more than the DVD package.

The ones who do will freak will be the $5 to $7 buyers, but alot of those movies will be too low volume to even show up on HD for a couple of years.

When they find out they HD players make even the SD disks look better and they can continue to look in the bargain bin, the freakage will probably go down quite a bit.

The CD buyers, on the other hand, when they buy BluRay, are of course, FUBAR.:D

Why? It doesn't cost any more to rent HD movies than SD movies on Netflix.

Blockbuster on-line will still be renting HD DVD discs. The Blu-ray exclusive with Blockbuster is only for the 1400 corporate owned stores. It does not include the 3600 franchisee owned stores. Reports of what's been seen so far is expect around 50 Blu-ray titles and 1 copy of each at those Blockbusters. Anyone remember what the DVD roll out at BB looked like? About the same?

The $99 HD DVD with 3 discs is only available to those attending the Home Media Expo and must be purchased there. CircuitCity has the A2 for $249 and the 5 free movie deal lasts until July 31.

I do. Got a CD Warehouse (that's the name of the business) near where I work and they sell used CD's in excellent condition relatively cheap.

I was joking :) All of our used places besides Rasputin's have closed over the last few years. I still buy them too, because I don't hold average MP3s in high regard.

Today Toshiba extended the 5 free movies until the last day of Sept. I believe that is the date the blu-ray 5 free offer expires too.
