Denon 2200 connection to AVR 1604

I've just bought a new Denon DVD 2200 and Denon Receiver AVR 1604. I'm connecting the DVD to the TV using 'Component' and to the 1604 using 'Optical'. DVD's play fine but I cannot get any sound when playing SACD. That's despite also connecting analogue phono leads (x6) between them.

I've run through the set up menus of the Receiver and Player and can't see what's wrong.

Anyone any ideas what I could try?

You have to switch to the multi-channel input. Simply selecting dvd won't do it. I don't know how to do it on a Denon, but i'm sure the manual will tell you how to do it. You might also find a nicely labeled button on the remote (something like multi or ext-in) that will do it.
