I am planning ot buy this receiver. Any comments or suggestions?

I bought one about 6-7 months ago on closeout & think it's excellent.Has a better power supply than any of the newer Yammys other than the flagships(Z1/Z9). May not have all the video up-convert features of the newer models but I didn't buy it for that.It's a solid unit with enough power to drive just about any speaker you want.

I've owned mine for about a year now and I'm happy with it. I wish it had "pre-ins" for all the amplifier channels (not just the mains) and it could use a little bigger power supply (or more caps). Other than that, it's a nice unit.

Like all upper end receivers a bit complex but fun to unlock its secrets.

I use the reciever with Paradigms 40's in a 5.1 set-up
Good Power, Solid as a rock, build to last
Clean sound, WT 48 lbs.

Buy a Harman/Kardon. Yamaha's receivers do not put out the watts they're advertised at. H/K's do. This comment/suggestion brought to you by R˙che 1.

The 3300 is great for flexibility - it can run a second zone with low power; handy if all you want to do is drive deck speakers. The upconversion feature seems to work well too for those not wanting redundant cables all over.

I'd steer clear of any Harman Kardon -- I just upgraded to the 3300 from an HK AVR 525 that was in the shop twice and ran way hotter than the Yamaha. The H/K's are also less flexible.

That doesn't sound like a very accurate statement to me, but maybe if you would give some reason's as to why you believe that Yamaha doesn't perform as specified then maybe somebody will actually take your advice.
