Hello everyone, first post! It took me ages to register because it said i had a blacklisted IP when i tried connecting through the router, connected straight to modem and it worked :|
Anyway, i have a few questions about loudspeakers as i am going to be making a purchase soon,
i have my eyes on the GALE speakers and after a bit of looking, the only difference between the two series' is that the 30 series has paper LF drivers and the 40 series has a 'Woven Composite Cone' will i really be able to tell the difference?
and
The a/v reciever i was going to get (yamaha RX-V359) has 6 x 100w outputs, the only problem is the floor standers are 120w, front speaker 80w, rear 100w and bass 150w.
Should i go for a more powerful a/v reciever? and if i do, won't the higher outputs e.g 150w damage the lower wattage speakers?
Any help much apreciated :)

I think you could do better for your speakers.
Look at these unless you are totally sure that you want to buy the Gales.
<a href="http://www.av123.com/products_category_brand.php?section=speakers&brand=55">Onix X-Series</a>
Athena Technoligies also has very nice speakers for the money.
For subwoofers you could look at the X-Sub (also Onix). The X-Series as well as this sub come in different finishes to match your decor.

The X-Sub looks good and i like the athena speakers, but problem is that i am from the UK and there seems to be no mention of them over here

Oh, that is unfortunate. I don't know any Internet Direct companies over in the UK. AV123 is internet only I think. I don't know if they deal in UK.

Looks like ill be going for the gale ones then, they will be at least a step up from the sub £100 all in one creative set i have now :)
Regarding the AV unit, will i damage the 80 watt speakers if the output channel is 100w? and will the 120W speakers work at all?
Thankyou for the help :)

I was also curious about power matching one's speakers to their amp....?

More power is better for the speakers since you'll push the receiver less for desired volume output. Pushing an uderpowered receiver may damage a speaker.

There is no need for concern. I would assume the subwoofer has an internal amplifier, meaning it doesn't rely on the reciever for its power. Underpowering is a far more common circumstance in which speakers are destroyed. So long as there is no audible distortion you should be fine.
