View Full Version : Blu-ray for 360?!!!
Even though it is rumour, there is usually an element of truth behind it some where.

Blu-ray is going to win, because HD-DVD can't win without support from Sony/Columbia/Tri-Star, Disney, and Fox.:D
Yea, thats pretty much my thoughts as well.
Of course there is the possibility of the two formats co-existing, like the x-box and PS2, even though the PS2 absolutely smashed the x-box in terms of sales figures.
But of course I want Blu-ray to anihalate HD-DVD out of existence.

I don't care who wins. As long as they make some faster-boot/disc read units then we're in business. Ever tried to start up any unit and put a cd in one? There are some faster than others but damn... that's still too long for me! These things are computers now. They need to boot and everything! :(

If this continues this way, Blu-ray should have it in no time.

You're all wrong.
First you must understand that there really isn't a huge difference between the 2 formats, they're just STORAGE MEDIA... There is nothing magical going on... ooh The Blu Leprechaun is making my BluRay movies so much better than HD-DVD. But yes, it is the only place to get a true 1080p FEED directly to your TV. (read that last sentence and don't come back at me with 'well when I hit the INFO button on my remote that displays the resolution... it says 1080p'...' -- Remember, I said FEED. The junk you get off of cable is 720 and pumped up to look better if you have the right components but not TRUE 1080p. That is the future, especially when we can get Fiber Internet like some markets do in the country... Then they'll release 1080p downloads... that's the money. Better start planning a massive hard drive array. I've already got 2 external 2TB drives, but it's not going to be enough....haha.
Second, by the time this 'so called war' is over with there is going to be one winner. But it's not HD-DVD and it's not BLU-RAY. It's going to be something called a hard drive... DIGITAL DOWNLOADS my friends. It's coming...
Third, Microsoft isn't going to put an internal drive either Bluray or HD-DVD because they don't want to sign their name to anything... But in true MS fashion, they'll make an external player (which is really no big deal for them and they could release that at any time) that has BluRay.

Ditto that..........
I refuse to buy either!!
I hope both BR and HD formats die a miserable death for doing this to the consumer.

Talking about vindictive cant we just settle and let blu-ray win ;) LOL... It wont be up to be because I refuse to buy either format. The day a single universal format or player becomes available, I'll jump on board at that time.

What about all the analysts who claim both formats will coexist?

I just want one format as well but I despise Sony and their terrible track record with media formats. I would prefer HD-DVD but I want just one either way.

Haven't the universal players been released? Or did you just want an affordable media player?

Yeah LG released one a couple of months ago. It doesn't fully support HD DVD though. You can play the hd dvds you just don't get the fancy interactive menus. Other than that it is a pretty nice machine.

You have to take out a second mortgage at the ~$1200 price tags I've seen to-date for the Universal players...

Heh, for that price you might as well get to stand alone players and have more kick *** gear on your rack. :D OoO Shiney

Oh you mean the XBOX 360 smashing the PS3??? Lets look at those numbers shall we? :D

Well it IS after work on Friday and I've been enjoying a few drinks, so lets talk the talk!!
"The fiery-mouthed Moore from Microsoft has tossed another taunt toward the competition. Using the visibility of the opening keynote address at the recent ELSPA Games Summit, Moore predicted that Xbox 360 sales would reach 10 million units before the end of the console's first 16 months at retail.
The BBC Online is reporting that Moore, Xbox corporate VP of worldwide marketing and publishing, expects "first-mover advantage" to be one of the console's key ingredients for success.
That number seems not to have been concocted out of thin air. Corroborating that figure is a report published from analysts at Kagan Research. Kagan sees the 360 selling 11 million units by 2007 -- a figure consistent with Moore's statement. However, Kagan sees any first-mover advantage eventually succumbing to the PS3." - CNet
Obviously M$ have sold more to date because the 360 was out a year before PS3( Bleeding obvious) But here is a tip for the future - PS3 is pure gold for the forseeable future while M$ will keep the new models coming out because their fanboys have more money than sense.
Bought the X-box Elite yet??
Anyone else's turn...

Default XBOX Problems
I got my XBOX 360 for Christmas, after only five months the thing broke on me. I have the unit on the top of my component rack, underneath it is my DVD player, underneath that is my CD Player, then my reciever is underneath that. In other words i do not feel that heat was a problem. I use my system for no more than two hours in one day, somedays i do not even use it. I am fairly furstrated with what has occured and then I had to deal with microsoft's help line. When i brought my broken xbox 360 into the UPS store to ship out the guy at the counter said "oh you need to ship back your xbox". I asked him how he knew, he said that they get at least one in a day to be shipped back, some times as many as five. Wow microsoft what is going on. Has anyone heard of the PS3s being repaired that often??

So M$ has SHIPPED approx 10 million units, but how many were to replace busted units??

Heat probably was the problem davo. The 360 was not designed with proper internal cooling. Microsoft wanted to sacrifice size for cooling ability to gain more in the market in Japan.
Also, micorosoft has attempted to fix the console over heating problem by replacing the processor with much more efficient (i.e. cooler running) processors and with minor redesign.
Rant:
The previous generation has seemingly lowered expectations on a consoles life in general. I hear many people say a six year lifespan on a console is a good thing. My first thoughts are of my NES and SNES bought close to release and still running like a charm. Electronics should have a much longer life span and people need to get that into their head!

To be honest, if they release the next GTA game on Xbox 360 as well as PS3 I will likely get the Xbox 360.:)

The next gta has been announced for both systems but there will be a few differences. Rockstar said since DVD-9 hold much smaller amounts of data the game will be more compressed on the xbox, so graphically it will be less awinspiring. The ps3 version is supposed to be nearly if not completely uncompressed.

There should be minimal difference in the NEXT GTA game for 360 and PS3 versions, I would imagine.
But the one after THAT one is the one where the PS3 will not have the limitations the 360 will enforce on the developers.
It is only a matter of time for the data storage issues of the 360 and its discs to bottleneck that system...PS3 will not have those issues.

The reason the differences will be more than minimal is because Rockstar has two seperate but combined branches working on the game one for ps3 and one for 360. They aren't just going to port it over.
Read some of the press releases from rockstar where they praise sony for the extra disc space provided by BR

Just think what might have been if M$ had a HD DVD drive built in?
But no, M$ had to open their big mouth and bag the PS3 for including things they didn't think the consumers would want.
So PS3 owners will have the best games and M$ will have egg on their face. Ha!:D
I'm just dieing for Moore to make some sort of comment in this regard...
