I am interested in 4 different center channel speakers. The M&K S150THX (center) black, the Boston VRC black, and the Wharfedale Opus Center in black, and the Onix X-CS in Piano Rosewood.

Which of these would sound the best? Or be your first choice?

Best Regards

PS Please feel free to send me a private message if you feel like it.

First, what are your front speakers, timbre matching is important.:)

Second, M&K is out of business so you may not find that center channel new.:(

I'd go for the M&K.

I know it is better to have identical speakers across the front. Not possible right now. I know M&K is out of business, and that is a concern. Never the less, I am leaning towards the M&K.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The M&K is virtually new. But I may have to spend upwards of $650 for it. Do you think it is worth that much?

$650 is pushing it. Is it this speaker?

I'd still buy it. Those are supposedly some deadly speakers.

Hi Seth

The one I am looking at is the S150AC which has a front panel that is slanted 7.5 degrees. It can be placed on top of a RPTV and it will point down towards the listener, or it can be placed on the floor and pointed up towards the listener.

$650 is pretty steep.

Thanks for the link. I may have to call them.

I understand that it is supposed to be one of the best centers available, however, it seems pretty large.

If I were rich, or at least financially comfortable. I would be getting an entire M&K setup before their stuff got to hard to find. As it is I am a poor college student that is lucky to have one broken MX-100 subwoofer.:D I really hope the service shop can get that thing fixed soon, I am aching to have it back.:(

Yea, I might advise against that, it doesn't seem like a good deal to me considering it is from 96'.:( That is just me and Orion talking though, they probably have a higher value than Orion says, Orion uses the formula.:(

I would have never guessed that the price was so low!!!

I offered $429 and he said that he had turned down $550. Perfect condition, original box, manual. Only about a year old. Boxed since last October. Waiting to be shipped.

I'm using M&K S150's across my front. They are awesome speakers. I really can't begin to tell you how much I like them. However, unless you plan on adding S150's to your L/R, it may not sound right with what you use or eventually use. Timbre matching the fronts can be very important. Also, it is a bit intrusive at times. The depth of that speaker is around 1', actually its about a cubed foot in size. Also it is somewhat heavy, ~23lbs IIRC. You may want to make sure you have either a way or somewhere you can mount it before you get one. Try making a dummy box with some cardboard to make sure you can fit it into your system. When I first got mine, I had no where to put it. Now it sticks out in an intrusive manner, but sounds so good I don't mind.

$650 is a reasonable price for that speaker from a retailer. They usually sell between $500-700 used on ebay (retail was $1100  ) As far as is it being 10 years old, it's hard to say. M&K started making that model ~'96, that doesn't mean the one they have is 10 years old, it could be newer. Those speakers still come up for sale on a regular basis. That deal is not good enough for you to feel you have to buy it now. You have time to decide and if you still want M&K's they will be found.

Again, buying a center that doesn't timbre match your fronts will likely irritate you by not sounding right. Buy the center that will match your planned fronts.
