Cool! I've been laying off the format war until I bought a PS3 and now I've been buying Blu-rays like crazy. I wish there was a cheaper standalone so I can put my PS3 for gaming duties only. And now there will be. This will be the cheapest true 1080p High Def player avaiable.

PS3, is still more logical.

Don't get me wrong, I love the PS3, but I've been itching for a standalone for a long time. I didn't expect a full blown 1080p machine at that price point from Sony. Many thanks for that.

I suppose, I would rather wait till it gets down to $200 and there are tons of movies.:)

There are already plenty of movies, just not enough good movies :D I've been buying BDs also lately, more than games anyway. $200 means either you will be looking used/demo/open box or waiting for about a year IMO...

I figure that'll be less than two years from now.

Ditto for me too!

I wonder if the new player has better video capabilities than the PS3 (i.e de-interlacing, etc). Anyone have any links that actually test the video abilities of the PS3?
