Well, I received my new Oppo 981 a couple days ago, and am absolutely floored by the picture quality. Absolutely gorgeous, even on low-res DivX files.

My question has to do with the analog audio outputs. Has anyone else noticed the incredibly low bass output? I just popped DVE into the player to calibrate sub levels for digital and then analog out. In order to hit the same SPL as the digital out, I had to increase the sub level by twenty (20) decibels for the analog out!

I checked my connections, and everything is connected properly. The cables are snug in their respective slots, nothing's loose. I went through the menu to double-check that too. Downmix is to 5.1, all speakers to small, sub to on, distances double-checked. I can't think of anything else to check.

Has anyone else found that their Oppo 981HD has very low bass output?

cheers,

I hope you get an answer supervij...because my Panny F87 does the same, exact thing.

Did u guys check if the polarity/phase for the sub has not been reversed? Try flipping that around to see if it makes a dif?

evilkat, I just tried reversing the polarity on my sub. Same thing. Same 20 dB offset. Thanks for the suggestion, though. :)

Y'know, I thought it was weird to read that my old Pioneer 588A had a 10 dB offset for the sub, but the Oppo having a 20 dB one? Just seems strange. Are there any Oppo 981 owners out there who haven't experienced this with theirs? I mean, I can live with the offset, it doesn't affect anything, but it made me wonder if my unit is defective or something.
