My Hi def Tv does not have a slot for a cable card. Does anyone know of a device using a digital tuner that allows a cable card (e.g the tuner in a dvr)?

Tivo has finally released their Series 3 HD box which accepts two cable cards. That is the only device I know of but it is an excellent one. If the $800 price tag is too much then there's always the DVR from your cable company, though those usually have a lackluster interface compared to Tivo in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure cable card is already dead... better look into that. I heard the concept was scrapped.

It's not dead. Tivo Series 3 just came out and it relies on CableCards. The cable companies are still offering cards. CableCard is dead in TV's as most manufacturers are not including them but they aren't useful in TV's anyway due to the lack of two way communication. Tivo eliminates that problem. There are tuner cards for PC's with CableCard capability slated to be released as well.

I want to hook up a HD TV (plasma/LCD - tbd) in my bedroom but dont have the approval or the furniture to put a cable box in as well.

What are my options -- and how would you rank them., Here are the two i can think of:

1. Cablecard-ready TV to access all TV channels
2. Direct feed from cable outlet in wall to TV w/HD tuner -- set up would restrict me to basic cable channels (seems like that is a waste)

Anything else i am missing? Wireless or something?

Thanks in advance.
