Hello Everyone,

I have been searching around on this forum for sometime now researching plasma tv's and to be completely honest, I am totally confused. I am upgrading from a "32 Panasonic HD Flat Screen to a 50" HD Plasma. I will be using HD cable for the time being and the room that it will be in is very well lit during the day. I would like to stay in the $2-$3K range. There is a wealth of knowledge on here and I was hoping for a little help or direction. I am not very technically inclined, so please go easy on me. I am leaning towards the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK but I am completely open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Tim

Personally, Panasonic or Pioneer would be the only Plasma I would buy.

I appreciate the advice, I have narrrowed in down to those two brands. I like the Pioneer Elite PRO-1140HD and the Pioneer PDP-5070HD.

Hmm. Check out the newest Samsung plasma units released this year; the ones I adjusted(I try to adjust out every television in order to get a better idea of it's capability, since the default setting is meaningless) in the store had some extremely high quality images, and impressed me the most, subjectively. Suggestion: disable the DNLe and Noise Reduction on the Samsungs, set color to 'Normal', then adjust contrast, brightness and color saturation, as well as turning sharpness setting down considerably. If any particular color is too strong, you can access the RGB gain, white balance and other fine tune setting by turning the television off, then on the remote: press Mute, then 1, then 8, then 2, then ON. The fine tune/service menu will appear.
