Does anyone here have any pre-release scoop on these speakers?

I don't know the answer but it is not uncommon to hear that kind of pre release info in threads at the sub forum at AVS.

These aren't subs...so are you saying they occasionally discuss other speakers in some threads in that forum? Tom has mentioned the MTS a few times at HTF also, but nothing too specific.

Yeah, that was the subwoofer section of AVS...no talk of these speakers there. Maybe Tom will chime in here with a few tantalizing tidbits of info. :)
Now I am curious. What type of speakers are these rumored to be?
Are they new tower/center/surround speakers?

On the SVS website, they have made an announcement that models MTS-01 (Mid-Tower Speaker) and LTS-01 (Large Tower Speaker) were in development. One assumes that these will in some way compliment the SBS-01 (Small Bookshelf Speaker) line.
But I was hoping for more than speculation...a little teaser from Tom would be great.
EDIT: I got a nice, but non-committal email answer from Erik at SVS..."We have no firm answers because R&D is still working on them." Nevertheless, they have suggested a release date of late this year or early 2007. So the R&D must be quite far along.

The MTS line is supposed to be a step above the SBS line, both in quality and price was the impression that I got, but we won't really know until they decide to put out more info on them. It was mentioned they wanted to get them out by the end of this year, but just like the SBSs: "We won't release them until we're happy with them, and that will take time..."
*edit - it was actually Ron that commented:
PS, The MTS-01 speakers are coming along nicely. Of course we'd all love for them to be selling already but it's not a process that can be rushed. I can say we've cracked open some very very costly sub-components that only volume OEM pricing can even hope to bring to an affordable price point.
It's tough to say what will make the final cut. Much depends on how hard a bargain we drive with some suppliers and where we finally might just say to hell with it and design our own component (as we've done often, whenever quality or performance or pricing leaves us less than enthused).
We've tightened up the style/design and finish options for the new line but research goes on, and will be done when it's done. I'd say there's still a chance for product to ship this year but it's a results driven process, not one tied to a calendar. If people knew just how poorly some of stuff in the $3K-$4K range really performs you might think we'd be prone to rush our offering for a 5.1 system to market.
So, it's coming, and we will be floating a few sets out to users for feedback in the months ahead, but as you know only a brief "Coming Soon" blurb on the website is there to "hype" things so far. If it was up to us we'd just announce them for sale and be done with it, but we do try to be forthcoming when folks hint at it as you have.
Thanks for your patience, we're pretty methodical around SVS and won't put a logo on a product till we're happy you WILL be happy if you lay down $3K on a system.

My mistake, I saw "SVS" and went directly into subwoofer mode.

I'd like to see SVS take their time with these. There are a lot of good speakers out there and coming out with something that beats existing models on a price performance basis is not all that easy.
Many manufacturers feel that a splash at the January CES is important, so I'm not expecting shipping product from many vendors until late q1 '07. I'd much rather that time frame than rushed to market quality

I'm not sure if that is what he is saying or not, though he is saying "system" so it could be $3k for a 5.1 or 7.1 setup. Or, that may be the target market they are after, though they will be charging less. We'll have to just wait and see I guess.

looking forward to hearing them:D . What I've heard is they are taking aim at the axiom marketplace for starters, price point will be about 2500-3000 ballpark for a full 5.1 system;) .

If that is true I wonder if bi/dipole surround speakers will be part of the system (Axiom has their quad-pole surrounds). I don't want squareish bookshelf speakers on the wall for surrounds.
