Looking to get a new 1080p TV between 50-57 inches

Probably Pioneer Elite, but you'd have to do some research on this set.

Yesterday I was in Factory Furniture Mart in Kansas City -- the best non-plasma pictures I saw were from the Sony SXRDs -- having been 'blobbed' and 'burned' on mine I'd advise reading the thread over on AVS that has the poll before you buy one -- next best were the Samsung HLSxx86s and 87's.
The HLS5687 looked good to me...

Previous AQUOS models have had outstanding picture quality IMO.

If you are not in a big hurry, consider waiting a couple months, see the set yourself, and check the forums for problems.

The 46" and 52" are the real Sharp LCD panels. The 42" is not a Sharp LCD panel. Check the specs carefully.

You might want to check out the New JVC 1080p Hdila. They accept 1080p and have dropped in price considerably from last years models.

I bought 3 TVs this week and can offer the following opinion:

At 50" I think the Pioneer FHD-1 plasma is going to offer you the best picture for anything but gaming and PC use. It can be found for around $6,200

If you want an LCD look at the new Sharp D62 52" ($4,200) and the Sony XBR2/3 52" ($6,400) for the best picture.

At 57" you might want to check out the Samsung.

I just purchased a 37" Sharp 37D9U (1080P), a 32" Sony KDL-V32XBR2, and the brand spanking new Panasonic 65" 1080 commercial plasma, the TH-65PF9UK

My suggestion is to get a Samsung HL-SXX88W and have it calibrated by a certified ISF calibrator. For the money, I don't think you can get much better of a picture.

I think the XB3 offers the best LCD picture right now, but the Sharps are excellent. They are coming out with the D92s early next year, so I'm not sure how much new technology is in the D62, but I'm sure you will be very happy, especially at its price point.

I have a Sony xbr1 with sxrd, i get complements on it all the time and its not even a true 1080p tv it takes 1080i and upcoverts to 1080p.
Sony has the new 1080p xbr2 modles out now check them out.
Oh yes i love the setting options, it has a tone of them to fine tune the picture,thats something you might want to concider when buying a tv.

How do you like the Panasonic 65"? I believe this is the same display Cisco is including in their high resolution video conferencing system - TelePresence.

This panel is amazing. The jump from 50" to a 1080p 65" has really made me spend more time watching TV. I love the simple form factor and expandable slots. Whether it is being fed with cable or Blu-Ray HD signals or upscaled DVD content, I really have no complaints. With HD material, you can stand 5' from the panel with no loss in resolution. I haven't used it with a PC. As with all TVs, you do have to take the time to calibrate. Factory settings have way too much color and contrast.

What is the difference between Sony XBR2 and XBR3. I have been looking at the XBR2 and I thought it was the latest model

XBR2 has swappable bezels that all have a matte finish. The XBR3 only comes in a shiny black bezel. Many people prefer the XBR2. I like the look of the XBR3, but others find it too reflective and don't liket the contrast of the black bezel and silver outer frame.

I use a 32" XBR2. Great little LCD, however I feel the sharps offer a better value. I also use a 37" 1080p Sharp LCD.
