Turntable

Can anyone recommend a turntable? I have a nice collection of LP's I have inherited and wish to listen to them. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about turntables or what would be a good purchase.

What price range are you talking? Music Hall makes some very nice 'tables at a pretty good price. You could get something pretty good for $200, and of course you could spend enough on a 'table to buy the top Porche.;)

Thanks for the reply. I am not looking for anything too expensive. I want a good, solid turntable for a decent price, say $200 or less. But like I said, I know nothing about turntables. I would be willing to pay a little more for better.

Do you have a Phono input on your receiver/amp? If not, you're gonna have to add a phono preamp into your budget.

A few years ago, I bought a Thorens TD190 turntable from J&R for $450 and was very happy with the purchase. Unfortunately, J&R no longer carries Thorens turntables. However, I found this link that sells this and other Thorens models: http://www.audio-discounters.com/manufacturer-thorens.html and this link: http://www.soundscapeav.com/thorens/td190.html -- please note that I have never purchased from these online vendors, so this is not a recommendation to use them. I hadn't owned a turntable in over a decade and was surprised how good my old LPs from the 1970s sound. I have made some CDs of old LPs using this turntable and a Sony ES CD recorder and the CDs I have made sound better than the "store bought" CD of the album. (Though I am probably a bit prejudice in this statement.)

Way back in the day (like I would know) B&O (http://www.bang-olufsen.com/web2/home.asp?section=systems) made some nice turntables, including one that kept the stylus thing perfectly perpendicular at all times so your LPs wouldn't wear down. I think they parted ways with that market a while ago though :rolleyes:
