Can't use denon link from dvd-2930ci, Next best output for best sound quality?

I will own the dvd-2930ci shortly. Unfortunatly my pre/pro is not a Denon so I will not be able to use the link. For video I will be using the HDMI cable out to my Sony SXRD Television.

My question is, If I am unable to use the Denon link for audio, what is the next best connection for audio and the best sound quality? Is it the Optical out or RCA out or Coax out? (not sure the dvd will have a coax out)

For now I am using a Yamaha rxv-2095 as my pre/pro with a rotel rmb-1095 amp.
I hope to upgrade my pre/pro to a rotel someday.

A digital fibre optic or coaxial connection will work.

Does your Pre-pro have HDMI inputs? if so use that.

If not then use the optical/coax digital connection, and ALSO use the multichannel analogue connections for DVD-A and SACD

TosLink fiber optic, and digital Coaxial will give the exact same signal.

TosLink optical is alot more common from what I've seen however.

I couldn't tell any difference in sound between the toslink and the digital coax, and from what I understand there really shouldn't be any. I'd recommend using the digital coax if you can for one simple reason, stability. I had my toslink connection fall out a few times because I had moved something slightly. I switched to the coax and it's never come off on its own.

I know Denon Link supports Dolby Digital, DTS, SACD and DVD-A, but straight-ole CD? Do I keep my 2 ch LR for CD, and if so, why? It seems if Denon Link is to be used for 5.1 ch audio, why not 2.0 channel?
Denon Link III will pass all those formats.

Depends upon where you want to decode the CD, at your player or at your receiver/pre/pro. And where you want to do that depends upon which DACs (D-A converters) sound better to you. But you can do it either way.

If you're clever, you can take advantage of the 2 different available connections to playback your CDs with 2 different sets of settings; for example 2.0 (large speakers, no sub) via analog or 2.1 (large or small speakers with sub) via the digital connection. Or vice versa.

I don't know if that Yammy has multichannel inputs, but if it does, do you plan to enjoy SACD/DVD-A? Because you'll need multichannel analog connections for those formats.

Otherwise, as everyone has said, either of the other digital outputs, optical or coax, will work equally well (and equally as good as Denon-link, too, btw).
