I'm looking for a dvd / hd recorder essentially to back up some vhs tapes and to record 4 or 5 shows/week from my Direct TV receiver. I'm not interested in a Tivo like service since I can't see paying for the limited recording I'll be doing. Since I'll be replacing mu current pc(win98) when Vista comes out maybe I should use the old pc to do this?? But, if this is done will I still get the programming guide?? I'll need something very user friendly for the WAF. What models can anybody recommend??

I would go with the last of these three http://www.jr.com/JRSectionView.process?N=24087+216000&Ne=101373#Type+of+DVD+Unit
But that's because I think you will love it and want the extra storage. The second choice is a little cheaper. I have an 80MB JVC and wish I had gone with the next model up.

A good starting point, thanks!! I wonder if I really need that much hard drive though since I normally record a few 30 minute programs and then my football game...none of which we will keep for any lenght of time, but I guess more HD can never be a bad thing!! I see where they continually talk about watch 1 program while recording another...how will this work with direct TV? I do have a dual LNB so will I need to run both lines to the recorder and then route them from there to the 2 seperate tv's? Since we do not have one of the newer HD sat. receivers will all of these type units all handle analog tv, or are some models out there totally digital?.....can you tell I'm new at this?
